Toronto's clandestine chickens

TVO Digital Media

The City of Toronto's bylaws do not allow chickens in backyards - but a company called Rent the Chicken delivers hens across Ontario to cities and towns whether it's legal or not. Chicken renters receive a coop, feed, accessories, and the egg-laying hens (no roosters). Rent the Chicken delivers in the spring and picks everything up in the fall. TVO talks to a chicken-renting family in Toronto, a former clandestine chicken owner in Toronto, and Rent the Chicken. Two Toronto city councillors also give their opposing views on whether egg-laying hens should be allowed in a large metropolitan area.
