Robert Sawyer: Oppenheimer and the Bomb

The Agenda with Steve Paikin

It was 75 years ago last month that the world saw the first and thankfully only use of nuclear weapons in human history. Despite knowing nothing about the nuclear program when he was Franklin Roosevelt's vice-president, it was President Harry Truman who made the decision to strike Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan with nuclear weapons, thereby bringing the Second World War to an end. How did America develop the bomb in the first place? Science fiction author Robert Sawyer speculates in his latest novel, "The Oppenheimer Alternative."
