As the opioid crisis continues to take lives, growing support has emerged for Canada to decriminalize the personal use of all illicit drugs. Is this a good idea? David Murray, former chief scientist in the U.S. federal government's Office of National Drug Control Policy, and Kwame McKenzie, psychiatrist and co-chair of Canada expert taskforce on substance use, debate if it's time to end the war on drugs and try a new approach.
