At 17, Sara was sentenced to prison in Afghanistan for running away with her boyfriend. She and her best friend Najibeh were the subjects of the award-winning 2012 documentary No Burqas Behind Bars by directors Maryam Ebrahimi and Nima Sarvestani. Upon Sara's release from prison, the directors invite her to the film's premiere in Sweden, where she sees for the first time what life outside Afghanistan is like, and applies for asylum.
