The Shuttle Years

Fixing the Hubble Space Telescope in orbit is the most complex shuttle mission to date. It requires ingenious solutions to unexpected problems while working above the shuttle's payload bay. The astronauts also test the Simplified Aid for EVA Rescue (SAFER), a Buck Rogers-type device that may eventually allow the astronauts to space walk without a tether. This SAFER test is part of NASA's plan to build a space station.
