Archive: Fourth Reading - Running the Economy AND the Cabinet

4th Reading

While they continue to put a positive face on our economic prospects, there is the first clear signal the Ontario Conservatives are worried about a worsening economy. Premier Harris has told his cabinet to "hold the line" on spending. While the Premier didn't say whether he wants a flat-lined budget or just prudent spending, this much is clear. The Conservative solution to the economic slowdown seems to be the same formula they've used in boom times: cutting both taxes and civil service jobs. Our panelists tonight: Ruth Grier, Mac Penney, and Richard Mahoney.
