Archive: A Canadarm for Alpha

The Shuttle Years

The Destiny Laboratory is attached to the Alpha Space Station. The Expedition One crew departs after 136 days onboard and Expedition Two arrives to live on the station for the next 147 days. With grace under pressure, astronauts complete the longest space walk to date (8 hours and 56 minutes). Chris Hadfield (2001) becomes the first Canadian to walk in space. Hadfield orchestrates the difficult installation of the Canadarm2 and participates in the first robotic-to-robotic transfer in space (Canadarm to Canadarm-2).
