Transcript: Show #1 Duet Tape Girl | Sep 29, 2002

The opening sequence shows VOX changing letters rapidly until it lands to VOX in
yellow block letters with TN in large, white, faded block letters on a red, blue
and pink background.

Anjulie has short black hair with red highlights. She is wearing a white and
black rimmed hoodie jacket over a blue t-shirt with a pastel purple shiny hat
and jeans. Anjulie appears from between two brick houses and she is carrying
duct tape.

Anjulie says HAVE YOU EVER WOKE
UP IN THE MORNING
WITH NOTHING TO WEAR?
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT
ABOUT USING DUCT TAPE?
WE CAUGHT UP WITH A
GIRL WHO CAN MAKE
ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING
OUT OF DUCT TAPE.
LET'S GO MEET HER.

Ellen is a teenager and she has dark black hair. She wears a black tank top with
jeans.

Anjulie says HI, ELLEN?

Ellen says HI.

Anjulie says HI, I'M ANJULIE
FROM VOX TV.

Ellen says HI, HOW ARE YOU?

Anjulie says GOOD, WE'RE HERE TO FIND
OUT ALL THE COOL THINGS
YOU'VE MADE OUT
OF DUCT TAPE.

Ellen says OH, GREAT.
COME ON IN.

Ellen and Anjulie appear on three split screens with a table in front of them
with duct tape.

Anjulie says SO HOW DID YOU
GET STARTED?
WHAT GAVE YOU
THE IDEA
TO START MAKING THINGS
OUT OF DUCT TAPE?

Ellen shows a duct tape wallet.

Ellen says ACTUALLY MY FRIEND
MADE ME THIS WALLET.
AND THIS ACTUALLY
WHAT GAVE ME IDEAS
TO MAKE OTHER
THINGS TOO.
SO FROM THAT WALLET
I WORKED MY WAY
ON TO OTHER THINGS.

A slate appears and reads “Duct Tape was invented for the U.S. Military During
World War II.”

Ellen holds up a pencil case, a shirt with no sleeves

Ellen says ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS I
MADE WAS MY PENCIL CASE
I USE AT SCHOOL.
I'VE HAD IT FOR
ABOUT THREE YEARS.
IT'S LASTED ME A
REALLY LONG TIME.
IT'S EXTREMELY DURABLE;
I CAN THROW IT AROUND.
I ALSO HAVE THIS SHIRT.
IT DOESN'T REALLY LOOK
LIKE ONE RIGHT NOW.
THE THING IS YOU'RE SUPPOSED
TO PUT THIS OVER YOUR HEAD.
SO IT'S LIKE A TOP
WITH NO SLEEVES.
ON THE SIDES WITH THE
ZIPPERS AND YOU ZIP THEM UP.
AND IT CLOSES
UP AT THE SIDE.
SO IT'S A DUCT
TAPE TANK TOP.

Anjulie says OH, NEAT.
AND CAN YOU WASH
THIS STUFF?

YEAH, IT'S REALLY
EASY TO WASH BECAUSE
YOU CAN WIPE IT WITH A
CLOTH ON BOTH SIDES.
BECAUSE IT'S DUCT TAPE,
IT'S EASY WHEN YOU
WIPE IT AND IT'S WET,
YOU CAN DRY IT
REALLY EASILY
WITH A CLOTH.

Ellen says IS IT COMFORTABLE
TO WEAR?

Ellen says IT'S VERY...
IT'S KINDA...
WELL, IT'S STIFF.
BUT IT'S ACTUALLY REALLY
GOOD FOR THE WINTER,
I FIND, BECAUSE IT'S
AIR RESISTANT KIND OF REALLY .
THE AIR DOESN'T
GO THROUGH IT
BECAUSE IT'S
DUCT TAPE,
SO IT REALLY
KEEPS YOU WARM.
SO THAT'S PRETTY
COOL FOR THE WINTER.

Anjulie says THIS IS A REALLY
COOL SHIRT.

Ellen unfolds the bag to show different dimensions.

Ellen says THIS IS MY BAG THAT
I BRING TO SCHOOL.
ALL MY BOOKS, I
PUT THEM IN THERE.
AND THE THING WITH THE BAG -
I HAVE THIS TAPED DOWN -
BUT THEN YOU CAN OPEN THIS
UP SO IT GETS BIGGER.
AND IT CAN MAKE THE
BAG A LITTLE BIGGER.

A slate appears and it reads “DUCT TAPE COLOURS: SILVER, RED, YELLOW, GREEN,
BLUE, BROWN, BLACK, WHITE, ORANGE, LIME, PINK, AND CAMOUFLAGE.”

Anjulie says WHAT ELSE DO
YOU HAVE?

Ellen shows a shirt that has a strap of duct tape.

Ellen says I HAVE STUFF THAT
I'VE MADE THAT'S
SORT OF MIXED
WITH DUCT TAPE.
I HAVE THIS
SHIRT HERE.
IT'S LIKE A TOP AND
IT'S GOT THE ONE STRAP
AND IT GOES
OVER LIKE THAT.
AND WITH SAFETY PINS,
YOU PIN THEM DOWN
AT THE FRONT.

Anjulie says SO IT'S KIND OF
STYLIZED.

Ellen says YEAH, IT'S LIKE
A FUTURISTIC
KIND OF LOOK WITH
THE METALLIC.

Anjulie says WHAT'S THE REACTION WHEN
YOU WEAR THIS STUFF?

Ellen says KIND OF PEOPLE AT FIRST
DON'T THINK
IT'S DUCT TAPE
FROM FAR AWAY.
THEN THEY COME UP
AND THEY'RE LIKE,
“WHAT IS THAT?”
AND I'M LIKE, IT'S
JUST MY STYLE.
AND THAT'S HOW I
LIKE TO WEAR THINGS.
I LIKE TO BE
DIFFERENT.

Ellen and Anjulie appears in front of the camera with a view from the inside roll
of duct tape.

ELLEN SAYS TA-DA!

Anjulie says WELL, I NEVER
KNEW WE COULD DO
ALL THESE THINGS
WITH DUCT TAPE.
I HAD A GREAT DAY.
HOW ABOUT
YOU, ELLEN?

Ellen says ME TOO.

Anjulie says WE'RE GOING BACK INSIDE TO
MAKE ELLEN'S PROM DRESS.
HOW LONG DO YOU
THINK THAT'LL TAKE?

Ellen says PROBABLY A
COUPLE OF HOURS.

Anjulie says COULD WE GET SOME MORE
OF THAT DUCT TAPE?
THANKS.

Ellen says BYE, GUYS.

Anjulie stands next to a graffiti wall and speaks.

Anjulie says NEXT UP IS THE YOUTH
CULTURE MAGAZINE SHOW VOX
WITH YOUR HOSTS
PATTY AND SHANE.
CHECK THIS OUT.
YOU'RE GONNA
LOVE IT.
