(music plays)
The opening sequence shows a wooden table with a small lit candle as several words fly by: Nutrition, medicine, prevention, treatment, health.
Fast clips show different sets of hands performing activities on the table such as pulling petals from a daisy, drawing a big red heart, tuning a violin, flipping through the pages of a book, cooking, and pouring a glass of red wine.
In animation, the title appears inside the shape of a house: “More to life.”

Then, Maureen Taylor appears in a studio with yellow walls and a small TV set in the background, which reads “More to life.”

Maureen is in her late thirties, with wavy blond hair in a bob. She's wearing a pink blazer over a green turtleneck sweater.

She says HELLO, I'M
MAUREEN TAYLOR AND WELCOME
TO “MORE TO LIFE.”
REDECORATING MY HOME IS
SOMETHING I SPEND A LOT OF
TIME DREAMING ABOUT, TALKING
ABOUT, READING ABOUT, BUT
LITTLE TIME ACTUALLY DOING.
WELL TODAY WE'RE GOING TO
GIVE ALL OF US DECORATING
PROCRASTINATORS A LITTLE
PUSH IN A FEW MINUTES,
INTERIOR DESIGNER AND
DECORATE OR EVA CHMIELOWIEC
WILL TAKE YOUR QUESTIONS,
BUT FIRST WE THOUGHT WE'D
TAKE YOU ON A LITTLE TOUR OF
A DOWNTOWN TORONTO
CONDOMINIUM EVA HELPED
DECORATE.

A clip plays.
Classical music plays as fast clips show different rooms in a condo.

Maureen and Eva walk into a spacious living room decorated with white furniture.
Eva is in her late thirties, with blond hair in a short bob. she’s wearing a black blazer with a matching skirt.

Maureen says EVA, DO YOU DECORATE A
LOT OF CONDOMINIUMS?

Eva says THERE
ARE LOTS OF HOMES AND
CONDOMINIUM BUT CONDOMINIUM
IS ALWAYS A CHALLENGE TO
DECORATE.

Maureen says WELL THIS
DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A
CONDOMINIUM IN THE WAY THAT
IT'S DECORATED.
TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT
WHAT YOU DECIDED TO DO HERE.

Eva says ARCHITECTURE IS VERY
CONTEMPORARY.
IF YOU STRIP OFF THE
FURNITURE WERE THE ROOM, YOU
PROBABLY WILL THINK THAT
CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE WILL
FIT MUCH MORE THAN
TRADITIONAL ONE.
SO THAT WAS THE CHALLENGE,
BECAUSE ALL OF THE
FURNISHINGS ARE VERY
TRADITIONAL, AND SOME OF THE
FURNISHINGS CLIENT ALREADY
HAD WITH HIM, SO WE DECIDED
TO HAVE A CONTEMPORARY
ARCHITECTURE WITH
TRADITIONAL FURNISHINGS.

Maureen says AND THE
CHALLENGE THERE, I GUESS,
WAS NOT TO MAKE IT LOOK OUT
OF PLACE, SO HOW DID YOU --

Eva says NOT TOO
STUFFY.
WE BLEND COLOURS.
YOU NOTICE THE WHITE WALLS.

Maureen says RIGHT.

Eva says THAT
GIVES WONDERFUL CONTRAST TO
DARK FURNITURE.
ALSO UPHOLSTERY IS VERY
LIGHT IN THE ROOM, AND GIVES
THAT WELCOME FEELING WITH
THE THROW CUSHION, THAT ADDS
COLOUR TO IT, AND THE FLOOR
THAT WHITE ON THE WALLS PICK
UP -- YOU SEE THAT THE WHITE
IS NOT REALLY WHITE.
IT HAS A LITTLE BIT OF
PURPLE IN IT.

Maureen says WHICH IS PICKED
UP IN THE CARPETING.

Eva says AND IN
THE FLOOR.

Maureen says SO BUCHLT AS YOU
SAY, TRADITIONAL PIECES,
THOUGH, YOU HAVE -- I GUESS
THAT'S A SETEE.

Eva says YES,
THAT YOU CAN RELAX IN FRONT
OF THE BEAUTIFUL VIEW.
HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT WE
SEEM TO FLOAT IN THE AIR?

(music plays)

Maureen says TALK TO ME, EVA,
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE
ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES IN
THE ROOM?

Eva says THE
ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES ARE
VERY CONTEMPORARY WITH ADDED
MOULDING.
YOU CAN SEE THE WINDOWS.
THEY ARE PANEL WINDOWS FROM
THE CEILING TO THE FLOOR.

Maureen says YOU'VE GOT
LITTLE RECESSED LIGHTING --

Eva says WE DON'T
HAVE ANY GENERAL LIGHTING
HERE.
MOST OF THE LIGHTING IS
ACCENT LIGHTING.
WITH THE BULKHEAD, I CALL
THAT LITTLE DENT BETWEEN THE
CEILING AND WALL BULKHEAD
WITH THE LIGHTING ALL
AROUND, AND THOSE ARE HALL
GENERAL LIGHTING, WARM
YELLOW LIGHTING.

Maureen says HE DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF
ARTWORK IN THIS ROOM --

Eva says NO, BUT
WHAT HE HAS, IT'S A PUNCH.

Maureen says IT IS A PUNCH,
AND I THINK WE'RE TALKING
ABOUT --

Eva points at a large portrait painting and says THE SOPHIA LAUREN.
IT'S A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF
POP ART THAT GIVES THE
INTERIOR KIND OF A
PLAYFULNESS.
DON'T TAKE ME TOO SERIOUSLY,
I HAVE VERY BEAUTIFUL,
EXPENSIVE FURNITURE, BUT I
LIKE TO PLAY AROUND A LITTLE
BIT.

Maureen says RIGHT, THAT'S
GREAT.
SO THE BLENDING OF
TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY
STYLES, YOU'VE PROBABLY
CARRIED THAT OVER INTO OTHER
ROOMS AS WELL?

Maureen says YES, WE CARRY
OUT TO THE KITCHEN AND
FAMILY ROOM.

Maureen says WELL LET'S TAKE
A LOOK AT THE KITCHEN FIRST.

Eva says OKAY.

As they walk into the kitchen, Maureen says THE FIRST THING
I NOTICE IS THAT THE FLOOR
IN THE KITCHEN ISN'T
DIFFERENT FROM THE FLOOR
ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE CONNED
DOME IT'S STILL THE
HARDWOOD.

Eva says IT KEEPS
THE PLACE UNIFIED,
ESPECIALLY WITH THE CONTENT
BUNGALOWS, WE DON'T HAVE
UPPER AND LOWER LEVEL, I
LIKE TO KEEP IT VERY SIMPLE,
AND WITH THE WALLS, WITH THE
PAINT OF THE WALLS THE SAME
AND WITH THE FLOOR, IT GIVES
THE UNIFIED FEELING TO HOME.

Maureen says TALK ABOUT THE
ELEMENTS IN THIS KITCHEN.
IT'S GORGEOUS!

Eva says THE
ELEMENTS OF THE KITCHEN.
IT'S A TRADITIONAL KITCHEN.
WE HAVE A MOULDING OVER HERE,
AND THE OWNER OPTED FOR A
TRADITIONAL KITCHEN BUS OF
THE WHOLE INTERIOR OF THE
CONNED DOME IT'S MORE
TRADITIONAL IN FEELING.
BUT IT HAS A CONTEMPORARY
ELEMENTS.
STAINLESS STEEL AFLINS AND
WITH THE WARMING DRAWER,
SUBZERO STAINLESS STEEL
FRIDGE.

Maureen says YES, AND THIS IS
HIS STOVE TOP OVER HERE.

Eva says THIS IS THE
STOVETOP WITH THE DOWN DLAFT
ACTUALLY GOES UP.
WE HAVE TO WAIT A LITTLE BIT.

She presses a button and a rectangular fan slides up automatically.

Maureen says OH, THIS IS THE
FAN FOR THE STOVE?

Eva says YES.

Maureen says LOOKS LIKE
SOMETHING OUT OF “STAR
TREK.”

Eva says YES,
BEAM ME UP, SCOTTIE.

Maureen says THAT IS GREAT.

Eva says OH, AND
IT'S NOISY MAA OKAY, WE'LL
JUST PUT THAT DOWN.
FABULOUS.
AND THE COUNT TERTOP IS
WHAT?

Eva says THE
COUNTERTOP IS GRANITE.
IT'S A DURABLE GRANITE AND
WE ALSO HAVE THE WALL OVER
HERE YOU KNOW IDENTIFIED
WITH THE GRANITE AS WELL.
IT WAS A VERY BUSY WALL WITH
THE VENTS AND LIGHT SWITCHES,
SO IT BLENDS IN.
AND ALSO BACK SPLASH.
IT'S ALSO VERY SLICK,
GRANITE SLAB.

Maureen says THAT'S GREAT.

Eva says AND THIS
IS NICE WHEN HE WORKS AND
LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OR EVEN
WATCH TV, IT BECOMES LESS
BORING.

Maureen says SO YOU COULD HAVE
SOMETHING COOKING ON THE
STOVE HAVE THE TELEVISION
SET ON, THE COMPUTER
GOING --

Eva says AND EVEN
YOU CAN ENTERTAIN GUESTS
BECAUSE WE HAVE OVERHANG
HERE WITH THE LITTLE STOOLS
THAT WHILE SOMEBODY COOKS,
ANOTHER PERSON CAN ENJOY THE
GLASS OF WINE.

Maureen says AND THE MATERIAL
ON THE STOOL IS THE SAME
MATERIAL AS ON THE SECTIONAL
SOFA OUT HERE.

Eva says I DON'T
WANT TO LARB WITH THE
MATERIALS AND FABRIC.
KEEP IT SIMPLE.
AND THIS IS OVER-SIZED SOFA.
IT'S A STATEMENT BY ITSELF.
SO WE BROUGHT THE FABRIC
TOGETHER WITH THE STOOL AND
THE CHAIRS AT THE TABLE.

They walk up to a purple sofa large enough to seat ten people.

Maureen says NOW I TAKE IT
THIS SECTIONAL SOFA IS
SITUATED THIS WAY BECAUSE
THERE'S SOMETHING IN HERE
PEOPLE WANT TO LOOK AT.

Eva says IT'S A TV.
AND BEHIND THE POCKET DOOR
WE HAVE A HUGE TV.

She opens a cupboard, revealing a huge TV.

Maureen says OH, NICE.

Eva says TO
ENJOY.

Maureen says AND YOU JUST
TUCK THE DOOR BACK?

Eva says AND THEN
PULL IT OUT AND CLOSE IT.
SO IT'S OUT OF SIGHT.

Maureen says AND YOU'VE GOT A
DIFFERENT SORT OF PANEL ON
THE BOTTOM.

Eva says THE
PANEL, ACTUALLY IT'S WORTH
TO MENTION BECAUSE IT'S
FABRIC.
WE CUT THE PANEL, THE WOODEN
PANEL FROM THE ORIGINAL DOOR
AND WE HAVE THE FABRIC.
AND IT'S EASY TO DO WITH
FABRIC.
IT'S NOT THAT EXPENSIVE.
WE PUT JUST ABOUT THE MOLING
TO TIGHTEN IT UP, AND WITH
THE FABRIC, ESPECIALLY WITH
THE STEREO OVER HERE --

Maureen says OH, YES.

Eva says THE
STEREO UNIT, YOU CAN OPERATE
WITH THE CONTROL --

Maureen says THROUGH THE
FABRIC.

Eva says AND ALSO
ALLOWS YOU TO VENT THE SPACE
WHILE THE UNIT IS ON.

Maureen says VERY NICE!
OKAY!
YOU KNOW, IT'S OBVIOUS THAT
THIS OWNER HAS A BIT OF
MONEY TO SPEND WHEN HE
DECORATES HIS CONNED DOME
WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US
WHO ARE ON A TIGHTER BUDGET.
ARE THERE WAYS WE COULD
ACHIEVE SOME OF THIS BY
LOOKING FOR PIECES AT FLEA
MARKETS --

Eva says YES.
YOU CAN GO TO AUCTIONS, YOU
CAN GO TO FLEA MARKET, THE
TABLE, A SIDE TABLE YOU CAN
PICK UP FROM THE FLEA MARKET
AND THEN REFINISH THEM.
A LITTLE BIT OF SANDING
PAPER AND VARNISH WILL DO
WONDERS.
AND ALSO, YOU'VE SEEN IN THE
OTHER ROOM OTTOMAN.
WE CAN DO IT FROM THE HOME
DEAP POE LEGS, WOODEN, CUT
WOOD FROM THE HOME DEPO
DISPMD PUT IT TOGETHER AND
UPHOLSTER, AND IT CAN BE
EXTRA SITTING, COFFEE TABLE
AND RELAXATION FOR YOUR FEET.

The clip ends.

Back in the studio, Maureen says GREAT IDEA.
AND INDEED, EVA WHEN OUT TO
THE HOME HARDWARE STORES AND
THE FABRIC STORES AND SHE'S
PUT TOGETHER AN OTTOMAN ON A
BUDGET FOR US THIS
AFTERNOON.
WE HAVE EVERYBODY HAVE
CHMIELOWIEC HERE TO TAKE
YOUR QUESTIONS.
SHE IS A DECORATOR AND
INTERIOR DESIGNER.

Eva sits next to Maureen. She now wears a green snakeskin jacket.

SO IF YOU HAVE A DECORATING
Conundrum, GIVE US A CALL.

A caption reads "416-484-2727. 1-888-411-1234."
Then, it changes to "moretolife@tvo.org"

Maureen says FOUR OF YOU WILL
GO INTO A DRAW FOR A GREAT
BOOK, EITHER PAINTING AND
DECORATING FURNITURE BY
SHEILA McGRAW OR “OLD
ONTARIO HOUSES” BY TOM CRUIKSHANK AND TOM DEVISSER
BUT YOU CAN'T WIN THE BOOK
UNLESS YOU GIVE US A CALL.

The books appear briefly on screen.

Then, Maureen says
EVA, NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN.

Eva says THANK YOU.

Maureen says LET'S TALK ABOUT
THE OTTOMAN YOU MADE.
I THINK YOU'VE GOT
PHOTOGRAPHS OF A STEP BY STEP.

Eva says YES.
FIRST OF ALL WE HAVE TO
START WITH THE HARD IS WEAR
AND HARDWARE STORE WHERE YOU
BUY YOUR MATERIALS.

Maureen says OKAY AND WHAT
MATERIALS DID YOU HAVE TO
BUY.

Eva says OKAY,
YOU BUY LUMBER TO CREATE A BOX.
A PIECE OF PLYWOOD, OF
COURSE THE LEGS.
FOUR LEGS.
I THINK THIS WAS THE MOST OF
THE EXPENSE FOR THE OTTOMAN,
AND FLOOD BRACKETS THAT YOU
SCREW THE LEG TO IT FAB
ANDIK A PIECE OF FOAM.

A picture of the materials appears on screen.

Maureen says AND THAT'S IT?

Eva says THAT'S IT.
OH, UPHOLSTERY NAILS, AND I
THINK THAT'S ALL.

Maureen says WHERE DO YOU GO
FROM THERE?
YOU BUILD THE BOX FIRST?

Eva says YOU
BUILD THE BOX FIRST.
AND THEN YOU PUT THE BLOCKS
INSIDE THE BOX.

Maureen says RIGHT.

A picture shows the box with the four blocks inside, in the corners.

Eva says PUT THE
FLOOD BRACKETS TO SCREW THE
LEG ON, YOU SCREW THE LEGS
ON, THEN PUT THE FOAM ON TOP,
CUT THE FABRIC AND JUST AS
YOU TURN UPSIDEDOWN, YOU
WILL SEE THE UPHOLSTERY
NAILS.

Maureen says IS THERE ANY
SEWING ACTUALLY INVOLVED
WITH THIS?

Both women examine the finished ottoman on display in the studio.

Eva says YES, IT IS.
YOU CUT THE FABRIC ALONG THE
FOAM.
THAT WOULD BE ONE PART, AND
THEN YOU HAVE THE PIPING --

Maureen says THE PIPING.

Eva says EXACTLY,
AND THEN THE FABRIC GOES
ALONG THE SIDES, AND THAT
PART ONLY NEEDS SEWING.

Maureen says YOU KNOW WHAT?
THIS IS A NICE SIZE BUT ALSO
I'VE SEEN THEM IN A
DECORATING MAGAZINES WHERE
YOU GET A LARGER OTTOMAN?
A SMALL LIVING ROOM WHERE
YOU DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR A
COFFEE TABLE THEY USE IT
ALMOST AS A COFFEE TABLE.

A caption reads “Eva Chmielowiec. Interior Designer.”

Eva says YOU CAN
USE IT AS A COFFEE TABLE,
EXTRA SEATING, WHERE IF YOU
HAVE MORE GUESTS THAN YOU
CAN HANDLE ON SOFA AND SIDE
CHAIRS.
YOU CAN USE IT FOR YOUR FEET,
RELAXATION, LISTENING TO
MUSIC.
LOTS OF --

Maureen says QUITE VERSATILE,
REALLY.
OKAY, WELL WE'VE ALSO GOT
SOME PHOTOGRAPHS THAT PEOPLE
SENT IN, AND WE'VE HAD EVA
TAKE A LACK AT SOME OF THEM
AND GIVE US -- ANSWER SOME
DECORATING QUESTIONS AND
WE'RE GOING TO START WITH MY
COTTAGE BECAUSE IT'S MY SHOW
AND I GOT MY PHOTOGRAPHS IN
TO EVA FIRST.
SO I'M BUILDING A COTTAGE.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THE EXTERIOR
ISN'T DONE.
WHAT WE DID FIRST SO FAR --
THERE IT IS.

A picture shows a cottage in construction in the woods.

Maureen continues AND BY THE WAY THIS IS ONLY
480 SQUARE FEET ON THE MAIN
FLOOR, THAT'S ALL IT IS, SO
IT'S VERY SMALL.
IT LOOKS VERY VERTICAL, I
FIND AND I THOUGHT IF WE PUT
SOMETHING DIFFERENT ON THE
UPPER STORY FROM THE LOWER
STORY, MAYBE WE COULD MAKE
IT LESS VERTICAL.
SO I'M LOOKING -- I'M
THINKING OF CEDAR SHINGLES
FOR THE UPPER STORY, EVA,
AND I'M LOOKING FOR A COLOUR
OF STAIN TO SORT OF TIE IT
TOGETHER WITH THE GREEN TIN
ROOF AND THEN THE CEDAR
SIDING.

Eva shows Maureen a square piece of green wood and says OKAY,
I'LL MAKE YOU A SAMPLE.
THIS IS ON THE CEDAR.
THIS IS THE COLOUR, IT'S A
TINTED STAIN COLOUR, TINTED
BY BENJAMIN MOORE, OKAY?

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says IT'S
YOURS.
I CAN GIVE IT TO YOU RIGHT
NOW, SO YOU CAN GO, BECAUSE
I FORGOT THE NAME OF IT.

Maureen says IT LOOKS SORT OF
LIKE A MOSSY GREEN OR A
GREY-GREEN.

Eva says YES, THE
REASON I WANT TO KEEP IT
GREEN IS BECAUSE YOUR ROOF
IS ALSO GREEN, AND ALTHOUGH
IT'S BRIGHT RIGHT NOW, HE
WILL GO DARKER IN TIME AND
MORE OF AN EARTHY GREEN TONE
SO THAT WILL STAND TIME WITH
THE SHINGLES ON, WITH THE
STAINED SHINGLES.

Maureen says THAT WOULD LOOK
NICE.
NOW IN THE VERY FRONT THE
DORMER WINDOWS WILL ALSO
HAVE THE SHINGLE --

Eva says YES.

Maureen says SINCE THE DORMER
IS UP AGAINST THE ROOF, WILL
THAT BE OKAY?
THE TWO GREENS?

Eva says THAT
WILL BE GREAT.
THE REASON -- YOU CAN PAINT
IT, ALSO.
YOU HAVE EXTERIOR PAINTS,
BUT WITH THE STAIN WHAT I
LIKE VERY MUCH IS THAT THE
GRAIN SHOWS THROUGH-DRRB

Maureen says SHOWS THROUGH.

Eva says SHOWS
THROUGH THROUGH THE STAIN
AND THAT WAY YOU HAVE SOME
KIND OF TEXTURE ADDED TO
WHOLE EXTERIOR OF THE
COTTAGE.

Maureen says OKAY.
I LIKE THAT IDEA VERY MUCH.

Eva says AND IT'S
VERY NICE.
IT'S VERY NICE ON THE LARGER
SURFACE.

Maureen says I'VE HEARD SOME
PEOPLE SAY, TOO, THAT SOME
OF THESE STAINS FOR
EXTERIORS CAN -- IT CAN BE
TEN, FIFTEEN YEARS BEFORE
YOU HAVE TO REPAINT THEM.
THEY REALLY WITH STAND THE
SUNLIGHT --

Eva says ESPECIALLY WITH CEDAR,
BECAUSE IT HAS BEAUTIFUL
GRAIN AND LOTS OF SOFT WOOD
IN BETWEEN THE GRAIN SO
STAIN REALLY PENETRATE THE
WOOD.

Maureen says LET'S GO INSIDE
MY COTTAGE NOW.
I'VE PUT IN CUP BOARDS AND
THE COUNTERTOP BUT AS YOU
CAN SEE I HAVEN'T FINISHED
MUCH ELSE.

A picture shows a kitchen with bare wood cupboards and a blueish countertop.

Maureen continues I'M LOOKING FOR IDEAS FOR
THE BACKSPLASH, COLOUR ON
THE KITCHEN WALLS AND CAN
YOU SEE THE MAJOR FEW PA
DESIGNER PROBLEM, AND I'LL
BLAME MY BROTHER-IN-LAW,
WE'VE GOT THE STOVE STICKING
OVER THE COUNTERTOP AND IT
LOOKS YID YS.
WHAT CAN I DO?

Eva says OH, LOTS
OF THINGS BUT WHEN I PREPARE
OVER HERE -- ACTUALLY I
TRACED YOUR PICTURE

She shows Maureen a drawing of her cottage kitchen and continues
AND THIS
WOULD BE YOUR COUNTERTOP
EATING AREA SO WHAT'S DONE,
THE SAME WOOD AS THE CABINET,
YOU CREATE A LITTLE SCOMPANL
THEN COVER THE WITH THE
THICKNESS OF THE STOVE SO
YOU DON'T SEE IT.
IT'S A NICE, TIGHT FITTING.
AND THAT WOULD BE YOUR
FRONT.
THE THICKNESS OF YOUR STOVE
CREATES A BOX THAT WITH A
LITTLE SHELF, YOU CAN HAVE A
LITTLE --

Maureen says SPICE RACK OR
SOMETHING.

Eva says EXACTLY,
IT'S VERY HAND DEWHEN YOU
COOK.

Maureen says THAT'S A GREAT
IDEA.
THAT GETS AROUND THAT.

Eva says ANOTHER
IDEA FOR YOUR KITCHEN IS
THAT THE SPACE, YOU PROBABLY
WERE THINKING IN THE FUTURE
YOU WERE GOING TO HAVE A
BIGGER BUILT-IN REFRIGERATOR.

Maureen says RIGHT, THESE ARE
USED APPLIANCES.

Eva says EXACTLY.
RIGHT NOW IT'S EMPTY.
PUT LOTS OF TYPE OF
COOKBOOKS OR MAYBE MAKE A
WINE RACK THAT'LL FIT THAT
YOU CAN PULL IT OUT LATER ON
TO PAT SOME BOTTLES OF WAYNE
SO YOU WILL SEE THAT THE --

Maureen says THAT THERE'S A
SPACE THERE.

Eva says YOU
WON'T SEE THAT EMPTY SPACE.
ANOTHER IDEA FOR YOUR
COTTAGE, IT HAS SUCH A
COUNTRY BUT SCANDINAVIAN
FEELING WITH THE LIGHT WOOD
AROUND.

Maureen says AND THE MAPLE.

Eva says EXACTLY.
SO YOU CAN PUT SOME
DECORATIVE PLATES, MAYBE
WHITE AND BLUE ON YOUR
BULKHEAD AROUND.

Maureen says UP ON TOP.
HOW DO YOU HANG THOSE THEN?

Eva says OH, THEY
ARE BRACKETS FOR THE PLATES.
YOU CAN BUY THEM IN ANY
DECORATIVE STORE.
YOU JUST SCREW THEM TO THE
WALL AND THEN JUST PUT THE
PLATE ON.

Maureen says OKAY.
ALRIGHT.
WELL WE'RE DONE WITH MY
STUFF.
YOU CAN PUT THE FLOOR PLAN
DOWN THERE FOR NOW AND WE'VE
GOT LOTS OF OTHER PICTURES
TO GET TO LATER BUT LET'S GO
TO CHEVON FIRST IN
STRATFORD.
SHE'S GOT A DECORATING
PROBLEM FOR EVA.
HOW ARE YOU, CHEVON?

The Caller says HOW ARE YOU?

Maureen says HI, FINE THANKS.

The Caller says IT'S AN OLD
FARMHOUSE WE'RE LIVING IN
AND WE'VE DONE IT WITH THE
WAINSCOTING ON THE BOTTOM
AND VERY LIGHT BLUE ON THE
TOP.
NOW MY DOOR IS JUST LIKE, I
DON'T KNOW, A PINE VENEER OR
SOMETHING ON THE BACK, BUT I
HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH
THAT, BUT I HAVE NO IDEA
WHAT.
MY HUSBAND WAS THINKING OF
DOING THE WHOLE DOOR WAIN
WAINSCOTING BUT IN A
DIFFERENT DIRECTION, LIKE ON
AN ANGLE, BUT I THINK IT
WOULD BE TOO MUCH.

Maureen says AND IS THE WAIN
WAINSCOTING DARK OR LIGHT?

says LIGHT.
IT'S A HONEY PINE.

Maureen says OKAY SO, YOU'RE
LOOKING FOR AN IDEA.
AND THIS IS THE DOOR WHEN
YOU'RE IN THE BATHROOM --

says IN THE BATHROOM AND YOU
CLOSE IT.

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says OKAY, IF
YOU ARE GOING WITH THE WAIN
WAINSCOTING, YOU HAVE TO
REMEMBER TO GO WITH EXACTLY
THE SAME DIRECTION AS THE
WHOLE BATHROOM.
YOU DON'T GO VERTICALLY.
YOU CREATE A DIFFERENT
PATTERN AT THAT TIME.
I ASSUME YOUR WAINSCOTING
IS VERTICAL, SO KEEP IT
VERTICAL ON THE DOOR.
ALSO WHAT YOU CAN DO, IT IS
SAND A LITTLE BIT THE WOODEN
VENEER AND PAINT WITH THE
SAME COLOUR AS WITHOUT
PUTTING THE WAINSCOTING AS
THE WAINSCOTING IN YOUR
BATHROOM, WHICH IS LIGHT
BLUE SO THAT WILL BLEND IN
THE DOOR WILL BLEND IN.

Maureen says OKAY, SO IT
SOUNDS LIKE SHE'S PAINTED
THE BLUE ON THE WALL ABOVE
THE WAINSCOTING.

Eva says OH, THE
WAINSCOTING IS WOODEN.

Maureen says SO WOULD YOU
LEAVE THE DOOR WOODEN
STAINED OR PAINTED THE BLUE.

Eva says OKAY, I
THOUGHT SHE PAINTED THE WAINSCOTING BLUE.
NO, THEN REFINISH THE DOOR A
LITTLE BIT.
SAND IT A LITTLE BIT AND
TINT MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF
STAIN INTO THE BLUISH TONE,
BUT KEEP IT WOOD GOING
THROUGH IT.

Maureen says CAN YOU DO THAT
ON YOUR OWN?
TINT THE STAIN OR DO YOU AND
THE PAINT STORE TO DO THAT?

Eva says YES, YOU
GO TO THE PAINT STORE AND
THEY WILL -- THEY, THEY
WILL --

Maureen says THEY WILL TENT
IT FOR YOU.

Eva says THEY'LL
TINT IT FOR YOU.

Maureen says SPEAKING OF
BLUES AND BATHROOMS AND SOME
OF THE COLOURS THAT WE'RE
HEARING ABOUT FOR INTERIOR
PAINTS THESE DAYS, DO YOU
HAVE ANY FAVOURITES OF YOUR OWN?

Eva says WITH THE
COLOURS?

Maureen says YEAH.

Eva says THE MOST
POPULAR RIGHT NOW IS TERRA
COTTA, RED COLOUR.
YOU CAN SEE IT IN EVERY
MAGAZINE.
IT'S SUCH A WARM COLOUR, BUT
I DON'T THINK IT GOES WITH
THE BLUE.

Maureen says NO.

Eva says NO.
LIME GREEN, THAT'S VERY
POPULAR RIGHT NOW.

Maureen says REALLY?

Eva says VERY
POPULAR, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE
BOLD TO GO WITH THE LIME
GREEN, AND LIME GREEN
DOESN'T WORK IN EVERY
INTERIOR.
IN EVERY INTERIOR, ACTUALLY,
THE EARTH TONES ARE VERY
NICELY ADAPTED TO ALL THE
AREA.
YOU CAN GO WITH THE TAUPY,
YOU CAN GO WITH THE TEAL
BLUE, IT'S ALSO VERY NICE
COLOUR, TERRA COTTA IS
ANOTHER EARTHY COLOUR.
HONEY, MUSTARD COLOURS, THEY
ARE WONDERFUL INSIDE.

Maureen says IF YOU WANTED TO
ADD RED, LET'S SAY, BUT YOU
THOUGHT YOU WOULDN'T GO ALL
FOUR WALLS RED, THEY TALK
ABOUT A FOCAL WALL AND DOING
ONE BALL IN A BOLD COLOUR.
DO YOU LIKE THAT APPROACH?

Eva says YES I
LIKE THE APPROACH, BUT YOU
HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THE
RES OF THE WALLS -- JUST ONE
WALL GET A REAL PUNCH, GIVE
IT A VERY DARK, DARK RED
TERRACOTTA.
THAT WITH THE REST OF THE
COLOUR, KEEP IT THE SAME
TERRA COTTA FEELING BUT GO
WITH TWO TONES LIGHTER.
SO THAT'S YOU KNOW, IT
UNIFORMS THE LOOK.

Maureen says THANK YOU FOR
YOUR CALL.
DIANE IS IN WINDSOR.
HI DIANE.

The Caller says HI.
EVA, WHAT HAPPENED IS WE
BUILT A HOUSE 12 YEARS AGO
AND IT WAS REALLY
ULTRA-MODERN, AND WE DID THE
WHOLE HOUSE IN WHITE, DUSTY
ROSE AND BLACK.
BUT I'M SORT OF GETTING
TIRED OF THE COLOUR, AND IF
YOU COULD ADD WHAT COLOUR
WHAT WOULD IT BE?
AND THEN I HAVE A SECOND
QUESTION, WE HAVE BLACK
MARBLE.
IS THERE ANYTHING I COULD DO
TO MAKE IT LOOK A LITTLE BIT
BETTER?
AND MY LAST QUESTION IS IN
THE KITCHEN IS DUSTY ROAST
AND WE CRACKED ONE TILE.
DO I HAVE TO GET RID OF MY
WHOLE KITCHEN BECAUSE IT'S
LIKE ABOUT 20 FEET BY 20
FEET?

Maureen says THIS IS CERAMIC
TILE ON A KITCHEN FLOOR IN A
DUSTY ROSE?
HOW MANY YEARS AGO DID YOU
GET THE TILE?

The Caller says TWELVE YEARS AGO,
WE WENT ALL OVER, EVEN TO
DETROIT AND WE CAN'T GET THE
TILE.

Maureen says OH.

Eva says OKAY.
EVERY TIP OF KITCHEN HAS SO-CALLED
TOCKIC.
IT'S BETWEEN THE CABINET AND
THE FLOOR, IT'S A SPACE YOU
PUT YOUR FEET DOWN SO IT'S A
LITTLE SPACE BETWEEN BASE
CABINETS.
WHAT YOU CAN DO, ACTUALLY
PUT ON ANOTHER TILES,
WITHOUT TAKING OUT THE
KITCHEN, BECAUSE TILE IS
ONLY ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH
THICKNESS SO YOU CAN
ACTUALLY DO THAT INSTEAD OF
COMPLETELY DEMOLISHING ALL
KITCHEN AND REDOING A NEW
ONE, BECAUSE OF JUST ONE
TILE.

Maureen says SO SORRY,
EXPLAIN THAT AGAIN?

Eva says OKAY,
THIS IS A LITTLE AREA.
IT'S CALLED TOE KICK.

Maureen says OH, IT'S CALLED
THE TOE KICK.
I SEE.

Eva says TOW TOE KICK.

She shows Maureen the drawing of the kitchen and says
AND THAT AREA IS BETWEEN
FIVE TO FOUR AND A HALF
INCHES SO IF YOU PUT A
LITTLE BIT, LIKE QUARTER OF
AN INCH TILE AROUND HERE,
OKAY?
THAT WON'T ACTUALLY MATTER
MUCH --

Maureen says SO YOU WOULD
TAKE THE TILE OFF OF THE TOE
KICK AND PUT IT BACK ONTO
THE FLOOR TO REPLACE THE
CRACKED TILE.

Eva says NO, NO,
I WOULD REPLACE THE WHOLE
FLOOR.
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO REPLACE
THE TILE.
ANOTHER IDEA IS TO JUST TAKE
OFF THE ONE CRACKED TILE AND
FIND SOMETHING VERY
DECORATIVE, OUTS OF BLUE,
COMPLETELY YOU KNOW HAND
PAINTED TILE AND JUST PUT IT
THERE AS A FOCAL POINT ON
YOUR FLOOR.

Maureen says WOULD IT HAVE TO
BE CENTRED IN THE ROOM?

Eva says IT
DOESN'T HAVE TO BE CENTERED,
BUT IF ONE TILE LOOK AWKWARD,
GET THREE TILES, MAYBE, IN
THE DIFFERENT AREAS.

Maureen says OKAY.
LET'S GO TO DIANE'S OTHER
QUESTION.
SHE HAS BLACK MARBLE, IT'S
LOOKING WORN IS THERE
ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO BRING
MARBLE BACK?

Eva says YOU HAVE
TO CALL THE COMPANY THAT
WILL REPOLISH BUT IT WILL
LAST FOR ANOTHER TEN YEARS.
THEY BRING A BIG MACHINE AND
THEY JUST REPOLISH THE
MARBLE.
IT GIVES BACK THE SHINE.

Maureen says OKAY.
AND THEIR COLOUR SCHEME OF
BLACK AND DUSTY ROSE AND
WHITE, SHE'S KIND OF TIRED
OF IT?
WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?

Eva says HMM, YOU
CAN GO LOTS OF DIRECTIONS.
YOU CAN GO WITH THE
TAUPY-PURPLE, YOU CAN ABOUT
WITH THE TAUPES, YOU CAN GO
WITH A BEAUTIFUL BUT ON THE
COOLER SIDE GREENS THAT WILL
WARM UP YOUR ROOM.
AGAIN, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT
EARTHY TONES THAT GOES
EVERYWHERE.
TAUPY COLOURS WITH A LITTLE
BIT OF THE HINT OF THE
PURPLE WILL GIVE ACTUALLY
UNIFORMS A LITTLE BIT --
UNIFIES A LITTLE BIT OF THE
DUSTY ROSE AND BLACK AND
WILL BREAK -- AND THIS IS
THE COLOUR.
ACTUALLY IT'S FOR ANOTHER
PERSON, BUT IT'S BENJAMIN
MOORE 1447 COLOUR.

She shows Maureen a little patch of dusty rose paper.

Maureen says 1447.
THAT'S BEAUTIFUL.
IT'S LIKE A LAVENDER WITH A
LOT OF GREY IN IT.

Eva says EXACTLY.
BUT YOU CAN INTRODUCE
ANOTHER COLOUR, LIKE YELLOWS
TO IT, IF YOU WANT.
YOU CAN INTRODUCE ON THE
COOL SIDE YELLOW.
YOU CAN INTRODUCE GREEN
COLOURS, MUSTARDY COLOURS TO
IT, BUT STILL, IT GIVES --
IT'STA NICE COLOUR WITH THE
BLACK AND DUSTY ROAST.

Maureen says OKAY, GOOD LUCK
WITH ALL OF THOSE THINGS
DIANE.
NOW YOU TOOK THAT OFF A
FLOOR PLAN.
MAYBE WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT
THE NEXT PHOTOGRAPH THAT WAS
SENT TO US FROM SALLY IN
TORONTO.

A picture shows a living room with a gray carpet, peach walls, and some black furniture.

Maureen continues AND THIS IS HER LIVING ROOM.
IT HAS A PURPLE COUCH.
THE FIRST THING SHE WANTED
TO KNOW, EVA, IS WHAT COLOUR
SHE AUGHT TO PAINT THE
WALLS.
THE COUCH IS PURPLE WITH
DARK GREEN, BLUE AND PURPLE
ACCENT CUSHIONS.
THE INDONESIAN CABINET IS
DARK GREEN, THE RUGS ARE
GREY AND THE WALLS AT THE
MOMENT ARE PEACH.

Eva says PEACH
COLOUR HEAR IS TOO WARM FOR
THE GREEN, BURGUNDY AND A
GREY CARPET SO THAT'S WHAT
I'VE DONE.
THIS ONE IS AGAIN THAT
LAVENDER COLOUR THAT WILL
UNIFY THE GREENS, WHICH ARE
ON THE COOL SIDE GREENS.
THE DARK INDONESIAN CHEST,
IT'S VERY DARK BROWN, ALMOST
CHOCOLATE FEELING COLOUR.
AND THEN THE BURGUNDY COUCH
AND THE ARMCHAIR WITH A
TAUPE GOLDY AND ALSO GREEN
COLOURS, THAT COLOUR THAT
LAVE VENDER COLOUR, IT'S
1447 WILL BE WONDERFUL ON
THE WALL.

Maureen says SHE WONDERS IF
THE COUCH CAN BE PLACED
ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE ROOM.
I GUESS SHE'S LOOKING FOR
ANOTHER FURNITURE
ARRANGEMENT.

Eva says WELL, UM,
WHAT I'VE DONE, I ADD SOFA BED.
I CREATED A MULTI PURPLE --
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM.
THAT MEANS THAT SHE WILL
HAVE ANOTHER SLEEPING
ARRANGEMENT.

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says SOFA BED,
FACING THE TV CABINET WHICH
IS BUILT IN THE BOOKSHELF.
HER BEAUTIFUL CHAIR ON THE
SIDE OVER HERE AND THAT'S
THE CHINA CABINET AND THE
MARRIAGE CHEST ON THIS SIDE.

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says BEHIND
THE SOFA BED MAYBE A LITTLE
CONSOLE TABLE SO WHEN YOU'RE
WALKING YOU DOAN SEE THE
BACK OF THE SOFA, AND YOU
CAN PUT NICE CANDLESTICK OR
MAYBE TABLE LAMP BEHIND.

Maureen says NOW IN THAT ROOM,
WHICH WOULD BE THE FOCAL
POINT THE ROOM IN THE
FIREPLACE WITH THE
BOOKSHELVES ON EITHER SIDE?
WOULD YOU CONSIDER THAT SORT
OF THE --

Eva says ACTUALLY
THERE ARE TWO FOCAL POINTS,
THEY'RE GOING TO BE -- I'M
SORRY, THE FIREPLACE, BUT
ALSO I LOVE THAT CHINA
CABINET.

Maureen says OH, OKAY.
SO BASICALLY THIS INVOLVES
HER BUYING A SOFA BED AND
THE REST OF THE FURNITURE
SHE KEEPS IS THAT RATE?

Eva says MM-HMM.

Maureen says FAB B FABULOUS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
LET'S GO ON TO HELLEN IN
OTTAWA.
HI.

The Caller says HI EVA.

Eva says HELLO.

The Caller says I HAVE DECORATING
PROBLEM AND A FUNCTIONALITY
PROBLEM ALL IN ONE.
I HAVE THREE BEDROOMS, AND
TWO OF THE ROOMS, ONE OF
WHICH IS A NURSERY, FACE
SOUTH SOUTHEAST.
SO THE WINDOWS ARE 74 INCHES
WIDE AND THEY'RE NOT
CENTERED IN THE WALLS.
THERE'S A TWO INCH PANELING
OF WALL ON ONE SIDE AND
APPROXIMATELY 18 INCHES ON
THE OTHER SIDE.
NOW IF YOU STAND IN THE HALL
YOU CAN SEE INTO ALL THREE
OF THE BEDROOMS, THE NURSERY,
THE DEN AND OUR BEDROOM AND
I'M WONDERING ABOUT WINDOW
TREATMENTS THAT WILL KEEP
THE LIGHT OUT IN THE DEN SO
THAT MY HUSBAND CAN USE HIS
COMPUTER, KEEP THE ROOM DIM
FOR THE BABY WHEN HE NAPS,
BUT WILL LOOK TASTEFUL AND
ELEGANT AND WHETHER I SHOULD
UNIFY ALL THREE BEDROOMS.

Maureen says AS FAR AS WINDOW
TREATMENTS?

The Caller says YES.

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says UM, YES,
BECAUSE THEY ARE VISIBLE.
AND YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER
THAT -- I'M SORRY, MY
THROAT.
OKAY.
GLASS OF WATER.

Maureen says GO AHEAD.
TAKE A LITTLE SIP.
SO WE'RE NOT WORRIED HERE
ABOUT THE COLOUR ON THE
WALLS.
IT'S WINDOW TREATMENTS SO IS
IT BLINDS, SHUT TERX CURTAINS?

Eva says BECAUSE
YOU WANT THE LIGHT TO SHINE
THROUGH, I WILL RATHER GO
OPT FOR THE SHEERS ON THE
WINDOW, AND THEN ON THE
SIDES CREATE A PAN NAL,
MAYBE A VALANCE ABOVE.

Maureen says A VALANCE ABOVE.

The Caller says WITH NICE,
HEAVIER FABRIC, AND THEN THE
PANELS ON THE SIDE OF THE
WINDOW WITH THE SAME FABRIC
AS THE VALANCE.
SO IF YOU NEED PRIVACY, YOU
JUST SHUT THE --

Maureen says THE SHEERS FROM
ACROSS.

Eva says THAT'S
RIGHT, FOR IF YOU WANT LIGHT,
YOU OPEN IT UP.
AND UNIFORM WITH THE COLOUR
OF THE VALANCE, OF THE WALLS
WITH THE CURTAINS AND MAKE
IT HEAVIER MATERIAL.

Maureen says NOW IN THE
NURSERY SHE'S GOING TO WANT
SOMETHING DARKER THAN SHEERS
BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW ABOUT
YOU, BUT MY KID NEVER NAPPED
IN THE AFTERNOON UNLESS I
MADE OUT A REALLY DARK ROOM.
WHAT WILL ACHIEVE THAT
DARKNESS JUST IN THE
NURSERY.

Eva says FORGET
ABOUT BLINDS.
AS YOU HEARD LATELY BLINDS
ARE VERY DANGEROUS AND WHEN
THE CHILD START GROWING UP
THEY HAVE THE PROBLEM WITH
THE STRINGS.
IF YOU WANT, CREATE A
CALIFORNIA BLINDS, THOSE ARE
MADE FROM WOOD, AND THEY CAN
BE OPERATED BY THE LITTLE
STICK IN BETWEEN, SO THOSE
ARE VERY NICE, AND YOU CAN
PAINT THEM IN THE COLOUR OF
THE CASING AROUND THE
WINDOW.

Maureen says WHAT DO YOU
THINK OF THE ROLL-DOWN --
YOU KNOW THE PULL-DOWN.

Eva says YOU CAN
DO THAT WELL, BUT MAKE IT
MORE DECORATIVE.
IF YOU BUY THE PULL-DOWN,
THE ITALIAN PULL-DOWN ROLL,
MAYBE YOU SHOULD GLUE A NICE
FABRIC ON IT SO THAT WOULD
BE MORE DECORATIVE INSTEAD
OF FACING A VINYL TYPE OF
PULL-DOWN ROLL BLIND.

Maureen says OKAY, ALRIGHT.
GOOD, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
FOR YOUR QUESTION.
BERNICE IS IN PICKERING.
HI BERNICE.

The Caller says HI.

Maureen says HI, GO AHEAD.

The Caller says I JUST HAVE A
QUESTION.
MY HALLWAY IS VERY DARK.
IT'S THE ORIGINAL PANELING
FROM WHEN THE BUILDING WAS
BUILT, AND I WOULD BE
PUTTING MIRROR GLASS ON ONE
SIDE.
I WAS JUST WONDERING WHAT I
CAN DO FOR THE OTHER SIDE.
BECAUSE I DON'T THINK THE
GLASS IS GOING TO BE LOOKING
REALLY WELL ON BOTH SIDES OF
THE HALLWAY.

Maureen says HMM, NO THAT SOUNDS
LIKE IT MAY BE TOO MUCH.

Eva says OKAY,
WHAT KIND OF PANELING DO YOU
HAVE?
IT LIKE TONGUE AND GROOVE
PANELING?

The Caller says IT'S OLD DARK
PANELING.

Eva says IS IT
FROM FLOOR TO CEILING?

The Caller says YEAH, SEALING TO
FLOOR.
THE HALL WHERE THEY TAKE OFF
THE COATS AND STUFF LIKE
THAT.

Eva says YOU CAN
TAKE OFF THE PANELING, BUT
YOU KNOW, I LIKE THE TEXTURE
OF THE PANELING, AND WHAT I
WILL DO, I WILL SAND IT A
LITTLE BIT LIGHTLY, TAKE OFF
THE TOP COAT, WHATEVER IS ON
THE PANELING, AND JUST PAINT
IT.
AND THAT WILL GIVE YOU A
TEXTURE.
AND BECAUSE IT'S A DARK
HALLWAY, AND ON ONE SIDE YOU
WILL HAVE A MIRROR, PUT IT
LIGHT.
LIGHT COLOUR THIS IT.
MAYBE SOME KIND OF YELLOW,
BRIGHT COLOURS.
BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE
PANELING, AND YOU DIDN'T
EXPLAIN WHETHER IT'S TONGUE
AND GROOVE OR JUST MOULDING
AROUND TYPE OF PANELING, IF
YOU HAVE A MOULDING, YOU CAN
ALWAYS PUT A NICE PHOTOGRAPH
PICTURE IN IT, OR YOU CAN
MAKE A STENCIL, IF YOUR
HOUSE IS COUNTRY LOOKING,
MAYBE SOME KIND OF STENCIL
OF THE FLOWER, ZIP IT UP A
LITTLE BIT.

Maureen says YOU KNOW, AFTER
YOU SAND THE PANELING,
SHOULD YOU PRIME IT BEFORE
YOU PAINT IT?

Eva says YES, YES YOU PRIME IT AND
THEN YOU SAND IT LIGHTLY
AGAIN AND THEN YOU PAINT IT.

Maureen says AND SINCE IT'S
DARK, SHE MAY TEED -- WELL
DEFINITELY THE PRIMER WILL
HELP, BUT A COUPLE OF COATS
OF PAINT?

Eva says COUPLE
OF COATS, YES.

Maureen says WE USED TO THINK
PANELING WAS JUST THE END OF
THE WORLD IF YOU BOUGHT A
HOUSE WITH A BASEMENT ALL
PANELED, BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE
ARE PAINTING IT IT'S REALLY
LOOKING NICE.

Eva says IT GIVES
YOU A TEXTURE.
THE FLAT WALL, LIKE DRY WALL
WALL WON'T GIVE YOU A
TEXTURE UNLESS YOU PUT THE
WALLPAPER, OR YOUR FAUX
FINISH OR PUT A STUCCO ON
TYPE OF FINISH AND PAINT IT.
PANELING, IT'S ALREADY --
YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE
TEXTURE, AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL,
ESPECIALLY IN THE HALLWAY,
BECAUSE HALLWAY IS BORING.
AND IT'S A NICE ENTRANCEWAY,
AND IT SHOULD BE WELCOME FOR
THE PEOPLE WHO ARE COMING
INTO THE HOUSE SO, MAKE IT
INTERESTING.
AND YOU HAVE ALREADY
PANELING WITH THAT TEXTURE
BUILT IN, WHY NOT USE IT?

Maureen says OKAY, VERY GOOD.
BERNICE, THANK YOU AND GOOD
LUCK.
I WANTED TO AND YOU ABOUT
THOSE PLASTERING TECHNIQUES
THAT I'M READING POUR ABOUT.
ARE THEY EASY TO DO
YOURSELF?
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT?

Eva says YES, I WOULD.
YES I WOULD.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO PAINTERS
STORE, AND YOU CAN BUY A
PLASTER WITH A DIFFERENT
TEXTURE.
YOU CAN BUY THE PLASTER WITH
THE SAND TEXTURE, YOU CAN
BUY THE PLASTER WITH THE
SMOOTH TEXTURE, LIKE
VENETIAN PLASTER LOOK.
YOU CAN ALSO BUY TINTED
ALREADY PLASTER.
YOU CAN ASK THE PEOPLE AT
THE PAINT STORE, ALREADY
TINTED FOR YOU, BUILT IN THE
COLOUR SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO
PAINT IT, YOU JUST PUT IT
IN.

Maureen says AND YOU GET THIS
UP THERE -- WOULD YOU PUT IT
ON EVERY WALL OR IS THAT
SOMETHING ALSO THAT YOU
SHOULD RESTRICT YOURSELF
TO --

Eva says HALLWAYS
ARE VERY NICE BECAUSE
THEY'RE SMALL AND WE CAN'T
AFFORD BUSY HALLWAYS.
IT'S A NICE SMALL AREA TO
WORK IN, AND ESPECIALLY FOR
THE BEGINNER, YOU DON'T
COVER A LOT OF WALL.
SO THAT'S NICE.
IF YOU START WITH THE
PLASTER, I SUGGEST TO CREATE
THE WHOLE ROOM OF --

Maureen says IN THE PLASTER.

Eva says IN THE
PLASTER.
IF YOU HAVE A CHIMNEY FROM
THE FIREPLACE, YOU CAN JUST
BUILD AROUND THE CHIMNEY
PLASTER.
SO IT'S ANOTHER IDEA TO MAKE
YOUR ROOM INTERESTING AND
THE WALLS JUST FLAT PAINT.

Maureen says OKAY, WE HAVE
IS I DON'T REMEMBER DESIGNER
AND DECORATOR EVA
CHMIELOWIEC HERE THIS
AFTERNOON TO TAKE YOUR
QUESTIONS ABOUT DECORATING.
SHE DECORATED CHER'S KITCHEN,
I WANT TO YOU KNOW, DON'T
YOU KNOW SO GIVE US A CALL
WITH YOUR QUESTIONS.
WHAT DID CHER DO TO HER kitchen?

Eva says IT WAS A
GOTHIC KITCHEN.

Maureen says GET OUT OF HERE!

Eva says IT WAS A
GOTHIC KITCHEN WITH BUILT-IN
ARCHES, IT'S QUITE DARK,
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, BROWN,
AND THE WALLS ARE VERY
EARTHY GREY-ISH BROWN-ISH
KIND OF TONES -- IT'S, IT'S
INTERESTING.

Maureen says DOES SHE CARE
RIGHT GOLT THICK THEME
THROUGH THE REST OF HER
HOUSE AS WELL?

Eva says YES,
YES.
I JUST FINISHED -- A WEEK
AGO I VISITED HER HOUSE AND
I SEEN THE WHOLE FINISHED
PRODUCT, AND I HAD A PRIVATE
TOUR OF HER DOWNSTAIRS
HOUSE.
IT'S ABSOLUTELY STUNNING.

Maureen says I BET.

Eva says IT'S
BEAUTIFUL.

Maureen says A GOTH KITCHEN.
MICHELE IS IN LINDSEY, HI
MITCH CHEG.

The Caller says HI.

Maureen says HI.
AND WHAT'S YOUR QUESTION,
MICHELE?

The Caller says WE'RE GOING TO BE
DOING A RENOVATION TO OUR
HOUSE, AN ADDITION, AND I
WANTED TO KNOW FOR THE
EXTERIOR, OUR HOUSE RIGHT
NOW IS OVER 100 YEARS OLD
AND IT'S OLD BRICK SO, WE'RE
NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO FIND
THAT SAME MATERIAL.
AND I WANTED TO KNOW IF WE
SHOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE A
BOARD AND BATON AS LIKE A
SURFACING OR LIKE A STONE OR
SOMETHING LIKE THAT?
I'M NOT SURE.

Maureen says YEAH.
IN OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD THIS IS
VERY COMMON.
PEOPLE ARE ADDING ON AND THE
HOMES ARE VERY OLD, YOU
CAN'T MATCH THE BRICK SO
SOME ARE TRYING TO MATCH THE
BRICK ANYWAY AND OTHERS ARE
JUST DOING SOMETHING
COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Eva says ACTUALLY
YOUR TWO IDEAS ARE
EXCELLENT.
EITHER WAY YOU CANNOT GO
WRONG.
YOU CAN ACTUALLY JOIN BOTH
IDEAS PUT THE STONE AT THE
BOTTOM AND THEN THE PANELING
ABOVE.
AND KEEP, KEEP THE WOOD IN
THE COLOUR OF HISTORICAL
COLOURS, AND BENJAMIN MOORE
PRATT AND LUMBER PAINTS,
THEY CARRY THE HISTORICAL
COLOURS.
SO YOU CAN GO WITH A NICE
BEIGEY BUT -- THEY LOOK LIKE
A MILKY TYPE OF COLOURS.
VERY NICE.

Maureen says LOGICAL LIKE THE
MILK PAINT IDEA.

Eva says YES,
MM-HMM.

Maureen says THAT DOES SOUND
NICE.
WHAT DOUVEG THE FAUX STONE
THAT I'M HEARING ABOUT
FOR -- WELL SOME PEOPLE ARE
PUTTING IT INSIDE BUT I'M
HEARING ABOUT IT AS AN
EXTERIOR STONE.
IT'S HARD TO FIND.
NOT THAT MANY HOMES ARE
BEING BUILT WITH IT YET --

Eva says IT'S A
VERY GOOD IDEA, BECAUSE IT'S
FLATTER, IT'S NOT SO BIG.
IT DOESN'T CARE RIGHT DEPTH,
SO IT'S NOT BULKY.
AND IT PERFORMS WELL.
I HAVE IT IN MY HOUSE, AND
I'VE DONE THE RENOVATION
ABOUT ELEVEN YEARS AGO, AND
IT LOOKS WONDERFUL STILL.

Maureen says WHERE DID YOU
PUT IT IN YOUR HOUSE?

Eva says I PUT
IT -- YOU KNOW THE AREA
BETWEEN ACTUALLY THE STUCCO
AND BASEMENT?

Maureen says YES.

Eva says YOU HAVE
TO DO SOMETHING BECAUSE IF
YOU PUT STUCCO TO THE GROUND,
STUCCO TENDS TO CHIP.
SO I PUT THE STONE AROUND
FOR ABOUT THREE FEET ABOVE
THE GROUND.

Maureen says ON THE EXTERIOR.

Eva says ON THE
EXTERIOR, JUST ABOVE THE
GROUND.

Eva says MM-HMM.

Maureen says MICHELE, THANK
YOU.
LET'S GO TO ANOTHER PICTURE
HERE THAT WE RECEIVED FROM
LISA IN TORONTO, AND THIS IS
A BACHELOR APARTMENT, AND
SHE'S GOT SOME STORAGE
PROBLEMS, EVA.

A picture shows a small living room with a coffee table, a couch, a large cabinet, and other pieces of furniture leaving little room.

Maureen continues IN THE MAIN ROOM WHAT ARE
SOME PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS TO
UTILIZE THIS SPACE IN AN
ATTRACTIVE WAY?

Eva says ACTUALLY
SHE'S DONE IT RIGHT NOW, I
CAN SEE IT.
THE CHEST AS A COFFEE TABLE
PROBABLY SERVE AS A LOT OF
STORAGE AREA.
THERE IS ANOTHER PICTURE OF
ANOTHER --

Maureen says ANOTHER ANGLE OF
THIS?

Eva says ANOTHER
ANGLE, I THINK.

A picture taken from a different angle shows yet another couch, two desks and some chairs.

Maureen says WE'LL SWITCH
THAT IN A MINUTE.
SHE'S WONDERING AS WELL
ABOUT THE HARDWOOD FLOOR AND
PUTTING RUGS DOWN SO, SHE'S
LOOKING AT COLOUR OPTIONS.
OH, OKAY, A VERY DIFFERENT
LOOK.

Eva says YOU SEE,
YOU HAVE THAT CHEST, WHICH
GIVES A LOT OF STORAGE AREA.
YOU HAVE THE SOFA, AND YOU
HAVE A DAYBED.
WELL PROBABLY IT SERVES --
IT'S A BACHELOR APARTMENT,
SO AS A NORMAL, REGULAR BED.
YOU CAN PUT IT UNDERNEATH
THE BED IN THE FORM OF
DRAWERS.
THAT WOULD BE ANOTHER
STORAGE AREA.
AND UNIFY THE LOOK.
CREATE -- YOU SEE THAT
COLOUR OF THE BED SHOULD BE
MORE OF A SOFA TONES.

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says AND
CREATE THE CUSHION, PUT THE
CUSHIONS AGAINST THE WALL SO
IT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE A
DAYBED RATHER THAN THE BED
THAT YOU SLEEP DURING THE
NIGHT.

Maureen says MAKE YOUR BED
FIRST OF ALL, LISA, IN TRON,
THAT'LL HELP A LOT.

Eva says AND
COLOUR ON THE WALL, SOFTEN
UP A LITTLE BIT, PUT SOME
COLOUR ON THE WALL, DON'T
KEEP IT WHITE, BECAUSE
FURNITURE LOOK VERY HARSH --

Maureen says OKAY, AGAINST
WHITE?

Eva says AGAINST
WHITE.
AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A
MULTI PURPOSE ROOM THAT IT'S
YOUR BEDROOM AND YOUR LIVING
ROOM.
MAKE IT COZIER.

Maureen says SO WITH THE SOFA
LOOKS TO BE SORT OF A TEAL
BLUE OR SOMETHING IN IT,
WHAT COLOUR WOULD YOU PUT ON
THE WALL?

Eva says ACTUALLY
YOU CAN PUT MUSTARD COLOUR
THAT WILL SOFTEN UP -- THIS
COLOUR.

Maureen says MM-HMM, YEAH.

Eva says TYPE OF
COLOUR.
YOU CAN PUT ALSO NOT --
THERE WERE THE CURTAINS.
THE FIRST PICTURE YOU SAW
THE CURTAINS WHICH ARE A
LITTLE BIT A RED COLOUR?

Maureen says RIGHT.

Eva says SO YOU
CAN PUT DEEPER PEACH COLOUR
IN IT.
THAT WILL LOOK ALSO VERY,
VERY NICE.

Maureen says OKAY, WE'LL GO
BACK TO THE PHONES.
CHRISTINE IS IN TOTTENHAPPEN.
HI CHRISTINE.

The Caller says HI.

Maureen says HI.

The Caller says MY QUESTION IS
FOR EVA, I AM HAVING AN OAK
TV ARM MOYER BUILT, AND WHAT
I'M WONDERING IS WHAT COLOUR
TO HAVE IT STAINED.
RIGHT NOW IN THE ROOM I HAVE
SEVERAL PIECES BUT THEY'RE
LIKE MAHOGANY COLOURS.
I HAVE AN OILED MAHOGANY
CONSOLE AND SOME CHAIRS AND
THINGS AND I'M NOT CERTAIN
IF I SHOULD DO THE SAME,
KNOWING THAT OAK, IT HAS A
LARGER GRAIN TO IT.
SO I'M JUST KIND OF WONDERING
WHAT I SHOULD DO, AND IF I
DO DO IT THE DARK COLOUR,
WILL IT MAKE THE ROOM LOOK
TOO DARK?

Eva says HOW BIG
IS THE ROOM AND HOW MANY
DARK FURNITURE YOU HAVE THIS
THERE?

The Caller says I HAVE A TRUNK
COFFEE TABLE, THE CONSOLE
TABLE IN THE MAHOGANY, I
HAVE A MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR
THAT THE SEAT IS COVERED AND
SO SEVERAL PIECES.
THE ROOM IS SMALL, BUT IT'S
A FAMILY ROOM OFF MY KITCHEN,
AND THE PROBLEM I'M RUNNING
INTO IS MY CUPBOARDS IN MY
KITCHEN, WHICH YOU CAN SEE
FROM THIS ROOM, ARE A
BLEACHED OAK COLOUR.
AND I ALSO HAVE MORE THE
JEWEL TONES.
MY CURTAINS ARE BURGUNDY, MY
COUCH IS A DARK GREEN, AND
THAT KIND OF THING.
I HAVE CARAMEL COLOURS IN
HERE, SO I'M NOT SURE --

Maureen says THIS IS A COMMON
QUESTION.
DO WOODS ALL HAVE TO MATCH
THROUGH A HOUSE?

Eva says NO, THEY
DON'T.
AND ESPECIALLY, YOU KNOW,
THE FURNITURE YOU HAVE
FINISHED IN MAHOGANY, THEY
ARE SMOOTHER.
OAK HAS THAT GRAIN THAT IF
YOU PUT A DARKER, IT WILL
STAND UP MORE.
YOU SAID THAT YOUR KITCHEN
IS OPEN TO THE FAMILY ROOM,
RIGHT?

The Caller says YES.

Eva says MAYBE
YOU SHOULD CONTINUE THE
BLEACHED TYPE OF OAK THEME
INTO YOUR FAMILY ROOM WITH
THAT ENTERTAINMENT UNIT
BUILT IN OAK.

Maureen says THE ARM MOYER.
STAIN IT IN --

Eva says EXACTLY.
I HAVE THE STAINS OVER HERE.
AND WE CAN GO WITH -- FOR
EXAMPLE, MONACO WHITE WILL
LOOK GREAT.

She shows Maureen the colour on a catalogue and continues
IT'S MORE OF A GREY TONE
THAT WILL GO WITH YOUR
BURGUNDY, WITH YOUR BURGUNDY,
WITH YOUR JEWEL TONES.

Maureen says JUST TIP IT
FORWARD THERE, EVA.

Eva says LIKE THAT?

Maureen says YEAH, THAT'S
GREAT.

Eva says THIS ONE.

Maureen says THE ONE IN THE
MIDDLE YOU'RE POINTING TO?

Eva says THE ONE
IN THE middle HERE.
SO THIS IS OAK, SPECIES OF
WOOD SO THAT'S HOW THAT WILL
LOOK.

Maureen says MONACO WHITE
IT'S CALLED.

Eva says IT'S
CALLED MONACO WHITE.

Maureen says SO THIS WON'T
EXACTLY MATCH THE MAHOGANY
FURNITURE BUT THAT'S OKAY IT
WILL UNIFY THE KITCHEN --

Maureen says EXACTLY.
AND IF YOU WANT TO UNIFY
MORE, MAYBE YOU WILL FIND
SOME KIND OF SILVER CUSHIONS
TO THROW ON YOUR COUCH AND
OR ARMCHAIR TO GET, YOU KNOW,
TO INTRODUCE THAT COLOUR
INTO THE ROOM.
BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE A SMALL
ROOM, AND ALREADY IT'S
CROWDED WITH THE DARK
FURNITURE, LIGHTEN UP A
LITTLE BIT THE WHOLE ROOM.
WHAT COLOUR ARE YOUR WALLS.

Maureen says ARE YOU THERE
CHRISTINE?

The Caller says MY WALLS ARE LIKE
THE TAUPEY MAUVE SORT OF
THAT YOU MENTIONED EARLIER.
THEY AREN'T --

Eva says THAT
WILL LOOK PERFECT.

The Caller says OKAY.

Eva says THAT
WILL LOOK PERFECT.

Maureen says BECAUSE THERE'S
A LITTLE MAUVE TO THAT.

Eva says MM-HMM.

Maureen says THANK YOU VERY
MUCH, CHRISTINE, GOOD LUCK
WITH THAT.
PAM IS IN TORONTO.
HI PAM.

The Caller says HI, HOW ARE YOU
DOING?

Maureen says GOOD.

The Caller says I'M CALLING
BECAUSE I JUST PAINT PAINTED
MY HOUSE QUELL LOW AND MY
HUSBAND THINKS IT'S TOO
BRIGHT, SO WHAT WE DID IS WE
MUTED IT WITH A LITTLE
STAIN.

Eva says OKAY.

Maureen says YOU MEAN THE
SBEER ARE I DON'T REMEMBER
OF YOUR HOUSE.

Eva says INSIDE.

Maureen says EVERY ROOM?

The Caller says NO JUST IN THE LIVING
ROOM AND WHAT I DID WAS A
WALL-WASH WITH SOME
WATERED-DOWN STAIN.
AND NOW DO I DO THE SAME
TECHNIQUE OF ANTIQUING ON
THE WHITE FIREPLACE AND TRIM
AND EVERYTHING OR DO I HAVE
TO PAINT THE TRIM A
DIFFERENT COLOUR.

Eva says NO.
NO, NO, NO, THE TRIM CAN
STAY WHITE OR YOU CAN PICK
UP FROM THE YELLOW TONES,
YOU CAN PICK UP A LIGHTER
YELLOW TONE AND JUST PUT THE
CASING AROUND THE WINDOWS,
FIREPLACE, BASE BOARDS, AND
IN THE LIGHTER TONE OF
YELLOW OR JUST KEEP THEM
WHITE.
WHITE LOOKS VERY CRISP IN
THE ROOM AND YOU DON'T HAVE
TO DO THE ANTIQUING IF YOU
DON'T WANT IT.

Maureen says WHAT IS THE RULE
OF THUMB WHEN YOU DO HAVE
WOOD BASEBOARDS, WOOD AROUND
THE WINDOWS AND EVERYTHING?
IF YOU ARE PAINTING
EVERYTHING, DO YOU PAINT --
THEY CALL THAT PAINTING IT
OUT, SO THE SAME COLOUR AS
THE WALL?
OR DO YOU LEAVE IT A --
LEAVE A CONTRAST OR A
DIFFERENT TONE?

Eva says IT
DEPENDS ON YOUR ROOM.
IF YOU HAVE A STANDARD ROOM
EIGHT FEET TALL, IT'S OKAY,
YOU CAN LEAVE THE BASEBOARD
DIFFERENT COLOURS OR EVEN
DARKER.
BUT IF YOU HAVE A SHORTER
ROOM, LIKE SEVEN AND A HALF,
I WILL PAINT THE SAME AS THE
ROOM TO GIVE THE ROOM A
LONGER, A TALLER FEELING.

Eva says A TALLER --

Maureen says A TALLER
FEELING.
AND I READ IN HOME
DECORATING MAGAZINES THAT
IT'S NOT A CRIME TO PAINT
OVER WOODEN TRIM WHICH WE
HAVE IN OUR HOUSE.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I KNOW
THAT WHEN PEOPLE BUY YOUR
HOME, THEY LIKE TO SEE THE
ORIGINAL WOOD THERE.

Eva says I LIKE
THE WOOD.

Maureen says YOU DO?

Eva says AND I
ALWAYS SUGGEST TO THE CLIENT
IF YOU HAVE WOODEN BASE
BOARDS, WOODEN CASING, KEEP IT.
WHICH YOU CAN DO, WHAT YOU
CAN DO, YOU CAN PAINT INSIDE
OF THE WINDOW MAYBE
DIFFERENT COLOUR, BUT LEAVE
THE CASING AROUND.
YOU KNOW IN THE OLDER HOUSE,
ESPECIALLY IN TORONTO, BUILT
IN 1920s, YOU HAVE THAT
THREE WINDOWS INSIDE AND
THEY ARE SURROUNDED BY ONE
CASING, WHICH IS USUALLY
WOODEN, BUT INSIDE YOU CAN
PAINT WHITE, YOU CAN PAINT
YELLOW, YOU CAN PAINT OF THE
COLOUR OF YOUR WALLS.

Maureen says OKAY.
ALRIGHT, THANK YOU PAM, FOR
YOUR QUESTION.
LAURA IS NEXT IN TORONTO.
HELLO, LAURA.

The Caller says HI GIRLS, HOW ARE YOU?

Maureen says GOOD THANKS.

The Caller says MY QUESTION IS IN
MY LIVING ROOM I HAVE A
FIREPLACE THAT'S NOT WORKING,
ABOUT FIVE FEET LONG BY
ABOUT FOUR AND A HALF FEET
HIGH.
IT'S BRICK AND THE BRICK IS
VERY, VERY DARK.
IT'S DARK BROWN AND DARK
TERRA COTTA AND IT KIND OF
PULLS THE ROOM DOWN.
I'M WONDERING IF THERE'S
SOMETHING I CAN DO TO SORT
OF LIFT THAT UP A BIT.
ON TOP OF THE MANTELPIECE,
FROM THE MANTELPIECE TO THE
CEILING IS A MIRROR AND IT'S
THE LENGTH OF THE FIREPLACE,
SO IT'S QUITE STARK AND COLD
TO ME AND I WONDER IF I CAN
BRIGHTEN IT UP.
I'M ALSO WONDERING MY WALLS
ARE LIKE A TAUPEY MOSS GREEN
SORT OF CULLOUGH, AND I HAVE
THE -- I'M NOT SURE WHAT
IT'S CALLED BUT IT'S THE
TRIM THAT'S TWO FEET DOWN
FROM THE CEILING.
I'M WONDER PHYSICAL I COULD
DO THAT TRIM IN THAT
BENJAMIN MOORE COLOUR YOU
WERE TALKING ABOUT, IF IT
WOULD MIKT TOGETHER.

Maureen says IS IT A PLATE
RAIL YOU HAVE?

The Caller says I'M SORRY?

Maureen says I WONDER IF YOU
HAVE A PLATE RAIL IN BECAUSE
IF IT'S TWO FEET DOWN FROM
THE CEILING THAT'S A PLATE
RAIL.
AND YOU'RE WONDERING IF YOU
COULD DO IT IN THE BENJAMIN
MOORE --

Eva says YEAH.

Maureen says THE PURPLEY ONE?

The Caller YEAH.

Eva says WHAT'S
THE COLOUR OF YOUR WALLS?

The Caller says IT'S A TAUPEY SORT OF
MOSS GREEN.

Eva says YES, YES
YOU CAN DO IT, NO PROBLEM.
YOU CAN ALSO GIVE ANOTHER
LOOK.
YOU CAN PUT -- PAINT IT IN
THE COLOUR OF YOUR TRIM OF
YOUR BASE BOARDS AND USE IT
AS A PLATE RACK OR MAYBE
SOME ART ABOVE THAT WILL
LOOK FANTASTIC.
TALKING ABOUT THE BRICK,
IT'S A BAR, RIGHT?

The Caller says A FIREPLACE.

Eva says OH, IT'S
A FIREPLACE.
OKAY, WE WERE TALKING
ABOUT STUCCO, AND IF YOU
REALLY WON'T MISS BRICK,
JUST PUT A NICE STUCCO COVER
ON IT.

Maureen says REALLY?

Eva says YES, AND
JUST PAINT IT WITH THAT
UNEVEN LOOK OF STUCCO.
IT WILL COVER LOVELY.

Maureen says AND WHAT COLOUR
THEN DO YOU PAINT THE
STUCCO?

Eva says THE
COLOUR OF THE STUCCO?
YOU CAN GO WITH THAT MAUVEY
PAINT.
EVERYBODY SEEMS TO LIKE IT.
LAVENDER OVER THERE.
YOU CAN ACTUALLY, BECAUSE
YOU HAVE THAT TAUPEY LOOK
ALREADY IN YOUR HOUSE, FAUX
FINISH IN A STONE LOOK.

Maureen says OH, YEAH.

Eva says SO YOU
START -- YOU BUY THREE
DIFFERENT COLOURS FROM THE
SAME FAMILY.
YOU START WITH THE LIGHTEST
AND THEN GO WITH THE DARKER
AND JUST TAKE OFF THE COLOUR
FROM IT.
SO THE DARKER GO INTO THE
GROOVES OF THE STUCCO.
AND THEN IF IT'S TOO MUCH OF
A CONTRAST, THE THIRD COLOUR,
JUST IN BETWEEN COLOUR,
BETWEEN LIGHTER AND DARKER,
YOU JUST DILUTE WITH A LOT
OF GLAZING AND JUST PAINT IT
OVER AND WIPE IT OFF A
LITTLE BIT SO, THAT GIVES
YOU, THAT WILL TAKE OFF TOO
MUCH OF THE CONTRAST.
AND IT GIVES IT
A FAUX STONE LOOK.
FAUX STONE FINISH.

Maureen says GOOD LUCK WITH
THAT, LAURA.
WHY DON'T WE TAKE A LOOK AT
THE PICTURE THAT WAS SENT IN
OF THE LIVING ROOM WITH MANY
DOORS.
DO WE HAVE THAT -- OH, WE
DON'T HAVE THAT ONE?!
OKAY.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A
LIVING ROOM THAT HAD A LOT
OF DOORS COMING AND GOING?
THERE ARE CLOSET DOORS AND
THERE ARE DOORS TO THE DIPING
ROOM, DOORS TO THE KITCHEN.

Eva says I THINK
I HAVE IT HERE.
I DON'T HAVE THE PICTURE,
BUT I HAVE -- SOMEBODY
HANDLED TO ME TODAY -- OKAY.

Maureen says A FLOOR PLAN?

Eva says FLOOR PLAN.
YES.
HERE IT IS.

She displays it.

Maureen says NOW IS THIS THE
FLOOR PLAN AS IT IS NOW?

Eva says AS IT IS
RIGHT NOW SO YOU SEE WE HAVE
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE,
SIX DOORS.

Maureen says THAT'S REALLY
SOMETHING.

Eva says AND THE
PLACE IS REALLY SMALL.
IT'S ONLY 14 FEET HERE AND
12 FEET OVER THERE.
AND IT HAS FLOOR TO CEILING
BOOKSHELVES.
I ASSUME TEAR INSIDE THE
WALL.
AND IT'S CLUTTER.
IT'S A COUCH, COFFEE TABLE,
ROCKING CHAIR, PUMP ORGAN.

Maureen says OH.

Eva says YES,
DESK AND CHAIR THAT YOU CAN
HARDLY MANAGE TO SQUEEZE IN,
RAID RATETOR ON THIS SIDE
AND A FIREPLACE.

Maureen says OH!
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS?
DOES THE PUMP ORGAN GET
PUMPED OUTSIDE INTO THE
GARAGE SALE?

Eva says ACTUALLY
I SAW THE PICTURE OF THE
PUMPING OR GAN AND IT'S A
BEAUTIFUL PIECE.
IT'S A DARK WOOD, ALMOST
MAHOGANY FEELING.
AND IT'S REALLY FROM THE
CEILING TO THE FLOOR AND
IT'S STUNNING PIECE.
AND WHAT I'VE DONE, I USE IT
AS A FOCAL POINT HERE.

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says SEE, I
CLEAN IT UP, THE PLACE A
LITTLE BIT.
IT'S A DIFFERENT SCALE.
IT'S A QUARTER OF AN INCH
SCALE, AND WE HAVE A
FIREPLACE AT THE SAME
POSITION, WE HAVE RADIATOR,
BUT I MOVE THE ROCKING
CHAIR.
THE ROCKING CHAIR IS
MOVABLE.
SO I PUT IT CLOSER TO THE
RADIATOR, AND THEN I PUT
SOFA ON THE ANGLE.
SO THAT WAY WE HAVE TWO
FOCAL POINTS.
FIREPLACE AND BEAUTIFUL PUMP
ORGAN THAT WE CAN LOOK AT
IT.

Maureen says AND THE SOFA IS
LOOKING AT IT.

Eva says EXACTLY.

Maureen says AND YOU'VE GOT
THE DESK BEHIND THE SOFA.

Eva says YES, IT
WAS TOO BUSY FOR ME.

Maureen says THAT'S A CLEVER
IDEA BECAUSE YOU CAN STILL
GET AROUND BACK WILL AND SIT
AT THE DESK.

Eva says AND YOU
HAVE THAT BOOKSHELVES ALL
AROUND SO IT'S EASY ACCESS
TO THE BOOKS THAT YOU WANT
TO USE AS A REFERENCE TO
WORK WITH.

Maureen says IT'S ALMOST LIKE
YOU'VE CREATED A LITTLE
CORNER OFFICE BACK THERE.
YOU COULD PROBABLY BEHIND
THE SOFA PUT A ROW OF NICE
ANTIQUE BOOKS OR SOMETHING,
ALMOST AS IF THE DESK IS A
REFRACTORY TABLE.

Eva says EXACTLY,
AND ALSO THE PERSON WHO IS
SIGNATURE AT THE DESK
DOESN'T MISSES ANYTHING,
BECAUSE IT'S -- HE OR SHE IS
FACING THE WHOLE ROOM.

Maureen says IF THERE'S AN
ORGAN CONCERT GOING ON,
YOU'RE IN THERE.
LET'S GO TO CAROL IN
TIMMINS.
HI CAROL.

The Caller says HI.
I HAVE A TWO
STOREY HOME IS IT AND MY
MAIN FLOOR IS ALMOST ALL
OPEN.
I WOULD LIKE TO PAINT IT BUT
I'M WONDERING IF I SHOULD
KEEP IT THE SAME COLOUR, ALL
THE WALLS ALL THE SAME
COLOUR.
AND ALSO MY SECOND QUESTION
IS MY WINDOW DRESSINGS.
I HAVE VERTICAL BLIND.
I'M WONDERING IF I COULD PUT
A VALANCE, ALSO, ON TOP OF
THAT AND KEEP THAT ALSO THE
SAME COLOUR, OR CAN I PUT
DIFFERENT COLOURS ON THAT?

Maureen says OKAY.

Eva says THE SAME
COLOUR OF VALANCE AS WALLS?

Maureen says OR THE VAL
D'ISERE LANCES AS THE
DIFFERENT WIND DOES IN THE
ROOM.

Eva says BECAUSE
IT'S AN OPEN CONCEPT I LIKE
MORE TO HAVE THE SAME PAINT
OVER ALL OF THE WALLS THAT
WILL GIVE YOU CALM AS A UNIT,
RATHER THAN A DIFFERENT --

Maureen says SORT OF LIKE
GOING BACK TO THE
CONDOMINIUM THAT WE WERE IN.

Eva says EXACTLY.
EXACTLY.
WITH THE VALANCE, AGAIN IT'S
THE OPEN CONCEPT, KEEP IT
THE SAME.

Maureen says IS THAT RIGHT?
KEEP THEM THE SAME AS WELL?

Eva says KEEP IT
THE SAME AND YOU COULD PUT
VALANCE ABOVE THE VERTICAL
BLIND NO, PROBLEM WITH IT.

Maureen says SHOULD SHE
WASN'T THEM WHITE OR IT
DOESN'T MATTER WHAT COLOUR
THE WALLS --

Eva says NO.
PICK UP THE COLOUR MAYBE
FROM THE FURNITURE OR SOME
LITTLE COLOUR OF THE BACK OF
A CUSHION, YOU KNOW, THAT
WILL NOT NEUTRAL, BUT MAYBE
SOME -- IT'S SUCH A BIG AREA,
SO YOU HAVE TO ACCESSORIZE A
LITTLE BIT WITH THE COLOUR.
GIVE A PUNCH WITH THE
COLOUR.
MAYBE IN THE GREEN SCHEME.
MAYBE WITH REDS OR YELLOWS.
IT WILL WORK FANTASTIC IN A
BIG AREA.

Maureen says OKAY, BEFORE WE
HAVE TO GO, LET'S CLEAR OFF
THE SIDE TABLE THERE THAT
YOU BROUGHT IN YOU WENT OUT
AND FOUND THIS SOMEWHERE AND
REFINISHED IT YOURSELF.

Eva says YES, YES.

Maureen says WHERE DID YOU
FIND IT?

Eva clears the clutter off a small brown table and says ACTUALLY
I GOT IT IN A LITTLE ANTIQUE
STORE.
IT WAS OUTSIDE.
THE RAIN WAS POURING ON IT.

Maureen says LET'S GO TO THE
BEFORE PICTURE BEFORE WE SEE
THE FINISHED PRODUCT.
THIS IS OUR EVA FOUND THIS TABLE.

A picture shows the small table in a poor condition, with scratches and stains on top.

Maureen continues WHAT DID THIS COST YOU?
IT'S PRETTY BEAT UP ON TOP.

Eva says IT WAS ONLY 36 dollars.

Maureen says PRETTY GOOD.
MADE OUT OF SOLID WOOD?

Eva says ACTUALLY IT'S CEDAR.
IT'S BEAUTIFULLY MADE.
USUALLY WHEN GUY TO THE
ANTIQUE OR FLEE MARKETS, I
LOOK AT THE SHAPE OF THINGS
AND THE QUALITY OF TEARS
THEY USE.
IT'S A GOOD, SOLID TABLE.
AND THE DESIGN IS VERY
SIMPLE IT.
WILL WORK WITH THE
TRADITIONAL HOMES AS WELL AS
CONTEMPORARY.

Maureen says WHAT DID YOU DO?
YOU PAINTED IT?

Eva says I JUST
SANDED THE PAINTS AND I
PAINTED IN THE DARK, RICH
CHOCOLATE BROWN, AND ON TOP
OF IT I CUT IT A LITTLE
STENCIL WITH A BOWL OF
FRUIT.
YEAH.

Maureen says YOU DID THAT
YOURSELF, DREW IT AND CUT IT.

Eva says YES.

Maureen says WELL I CAN'T DO THAT.

Eva says OH, YOU
CAN FIND A LOT OF STENCILS
IN ART STORES.
THAT'S NOT A PROBLEM.
AND I USE METALLIC PAINT.
DIFFERENT METALLIC PAINT
FROM THE RALPH LAUREN
COLLECTION AND WHAT METALLIC
PAINTS GIVES YOU, THAT
DEPENDS ON THE ANGLE YOU
LOOK AT IT IT GIVES YOU
DIFFERENT SHINE.

Maureen says IT ABSOLUTELY
DOES.
WHAT A GREAT FIND!
GOOD FOR YOU!
HAVE YOU EVER PICKED
ANYTHING OUT OF YOUR
NEIGHBOUR'S GARBAGE?

Eva says UH...
(LAUGHING)
I WON'T TELL.

Maureen says I DID.
LAST WEEK I FOUND TWO CHAIRS
AND I SENT MY HUSBAND DOWN
WITH THE VAN AND I SAID “GET
THOSE CHAIRS.”
ALL THEY NEED IS A NEW SEAT
AND I THINK I'M LAUGHING FOR
TWO EXTRA DINING ROOM
CHAIRS.

Eva says TWO
WEEKS AGO I FOUND -- SORRY
AGAIN MY THROAT.

Maureen says WILL YOU COME
BACK AND TELL US WHAT YOU
FOUND TWO WEEKS AGO?

Eva says YES.

Maureen says THERE YOU GO.
