Against a green background, animated letters read “Blast from the past.”

A caption appears on screen. It reads “Nero.”

A black and white drawing shows a marble bust.

The Narrator says ROMAN EMPEROR NERO HATED HIS
DOMINEERING MOTHER AGRIPPINA.
HE BELIEVED SHE WAS
PLOTTING AGAINST HIM
AS SHE HAD PLOTTED
AGAINST AND MURDERED
HIS STEP-FATHER CLAUDIUS.
NERO THOUGHT THAT HE
SHOULD REMOVE THE THREAT.
HE DECIDED TO TRY
POISON AND MAKE IT SEEM
AS THOUGH AGRIPPINA
HAD EATEN BAD FOOD.
HE TRIED THREE TIMES,
BUT SHE WAS SUSPICIOUS
AND ALWAYS OUTSMARTED HIM
BY TAKING AN ANTIDOTE.

Fast clips show a shooting, a chef taking out a dish from the oven, a woman eating, a barbecue and women drinking.

The Narrator continues NEXT HE TRIED TO KILL HER
BY RIGGING HER BEDROOM
WITH A MACHINE THAT WOULD
DISLODGE HEAVY CEILING PANELS
AND CRUSH HER.
UNFORTUNATELY FOR NERO,
ONE OF AGRIPPINA'S SERVANTS
FOUND OUT ABOUT THE
SCHEME AND WARNED HER.
ON YET ANOTHER OCCASION WITH
THE HELP OF A FLEET COMMANDER,
NERO DESIGNED A
COLLAPSIBLE SHIP
AND SENT AGRIPPINA OUT TO
SEA WITH A CREW OF OARSMEN
WHO WERE ALSO IN
ON THE SCHEME.
THE SHIP'S ROOF
COLLAPSED PREMATURELY
KILLING ONE OF HER TWO
SERVANTS INSTANTLY,
AND THE SHIP
BEGAN TO SINK.
DURING THE CONFUSION,
HER REMAINING SERVANT
PLEADED FOR HELP PRETENDING
TO BE NERO'S MOTHER
THINKING THE CREW
WOULD SAVE HER.
INSTEAD, THE CREW
BEAT HER TO DEATH
WHILE AGRIPPINA GOT AWAY.
NERO WAITED UP THAT NIGHT FOR
NEWS OF HIS MOTHER'S DEMISE.
WHEN A SERVANT OF HERS
ARRIVED WITH THE NEWS
THAT SHE HAD MIRACULOUSLY
SURVIVED THE ACCIDENT AT SEA,
NERO HAD GUARDS PLANT A
DAGGER ON THE SERVANT
AND ACCUSE HIM OF BEING PART
OF AN ASSASSINATION PLOT.
HE THEN SENT MORE GUARDS
TO AGRIPPINA'S PLACE
TO KILL HER,
WHICH THEY DID.

A clip shows a ship’s captain, women skating, a tree falling, an old fashion parade, a man writing a letter, a golf match and men laughing.

The Narrator continues LATER, NERO, WHO SAID
HE NEVER FELT GUILT,
CONFIDED THAT HE WAS HAUNTED
BY HIS MOTHER'S GHOST
FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.
