Announcing the Top 10 finalists for TVO's Short Doc Contest 2019

Vote now for the People's Choice Award

We're delighted to present the Top 10 finalists for TVO's Short Doc Contest! Congratulations to all the filmmakers on their achievements.

Our judges acknowledge the effort and skill that went into these documentaries and picked a Top 10 that includes compelling and emotional work on a variety of subjects.

We invited Ontarians from all walks of life to share their story and submit an original short documentary, no more than 4 minutes and 45 seconds long. We're proud to have elicited a wide range of diverse and inclusive stories from emerging filmmakers across the province.

To winnow down the submissions, we called upon a distinguished panel of judges:

- Astra Taylor, a filmmaker whose most recent documentary is What Is Democracy?
- Shane Smith, director of programming at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival
- Sarah Gonyea, first-prize winner in TVO's Short Doc Contest 2018 for A Voice for Change: The Laura Hillier Story
- Colin Ellis, producer and host of On Docs, TVO's podcast about documentaries

Our judges will award the first, second, and third prizes, and possibly a Short Short Doc winner, but votes from the public will determine which finalist wins the People's Choice Award. (One vote per person, please.)

Voting is open until September 16 at midnight, and we'll announce the winners on September 17.
