TVO’s on-line high school, TVO ILC, is now operating in D2L’s state-of-the-art virtual learning environment, developed in Waterloo, Ontario. The platform enables TVO ILC to offer students a more engaging user experience, upgraded course content, and additional interactive learning tools.
“These are exciting times at TVO as we incorporate new digital media tools into the TVO ILC product,” said TVO CEO Lisa de Wilde. “Our focus is on providing the best possible learning experience for our students, supported by the latest pedagogy for independent study.”
TVO ILC is Ontario’s largest secondary school, with nearly 20,000 students a year. All TVO ILC courses are strictly compliant with Ontario’s curriculum, and qualify toward achieving an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
As it launched its new learning environment, TVO ILC introduced 74 upgraded courses, providing an improved level of student-centred learning, with greater choice for students in how they engage with course material. The new courses include multi-media learning options, with audio, video and interactive tools. By the end of the fiscal year, it is anticipated that all 142 ILC course offerings will be upgraded for the VLE.
The upgraded ILC will also provide a simplified student journey, with an enhanced and streamlined payment process and self-serve options for student documentation.
TVO ILC is developing into a world-class on-line school. In addition to fulfilling its primary mandate of providing enhanced distance learning for Ontario residents, TVO ILC is also being introduced in selected international markets as a revenue generation tool for TVO.
