Golf
Cool Down Canada has the highest number of golfers per capita in the
world. If you'll be hitting the links, physiotherapist Karen Webb has
some post-game advice.
After a
day at the course - most golfers head directly for the 19th hole, they
sit for long hours, some slouching, others climb into their cars and
sit for the long drive home. It is the inactivity of sitting that can
lead to problems after the game. It can cause increased muscl;e soarness
and stiffness. When you are active, whether it is golf or any other
kind of sporting activity you get a build-up of waste products in your
muscles called lactic acid. Stretching after the game helps to reduce
the muscle soarness and the stiffness.
Now let's
talk about low back pain. It is the most common problems amongst golfers
and after a day at the golf course our spines are more vulnerable to
problems and we have to take some simple precautions to help prevent
pain. First of all befor sitting perform five back bends and when you
sit remember to provide some support to the lower back. You have a nature
inward curve in your lower back and you need to support that. You can
roll up your jacket or a towl from your golf bag works well. If you
