Program #9:
The Cold-like Virus
that puts some infants in intensive care. It's called Respiratory Syncytial
Virus...or RSV and you've probably had it at one time or another. It's
a common but little-known virus that acts much like a cold. All children
will get RSV by the time they reach two. For most, the symptoms are
no worse than a bad cold: fever, runny nose, phlegmy cough. But what
most parents don't know is that for premature babies, infants less than
a year old and children with lung or heart disease, RSV can be deadly.
Chiropractors, who's manipulating who? Three million Canadians visit
a chiropractor every year. Most of them are looking for relief from
acute pain. But some are being treated for ear infections, asthma and
even baldness.
A recent north
American study suggests that almost thirty per cent of chiropractic
patients may be getting inappropriate treatment. So when is a visit
to the chiropractor appropriate? We talk with Dr. Hamilton Hall, an
Orthopedic surgeon and Jean Moss the president of Canadian Memorial
Chiropractic College.
Second Opinion
Have you ever complained
about your weight or body shape in front of your kids? And what's wrong
with that? It's not like you're saying they're fat. But in her Second
Opinion, pediatrician Dr. Miriam Kaufman says the damage is the same.
