Program #21
For most women,
childbirth is the most intense physical experience they will undergo
in their lifetime. And although your partner may have attended childbirth
classes with you, and although he may mean well, some women find they
need another woman beside them to help them get through it. That's where
doulas come in. Doula is the Greek word for female slave, but today,
they provide a supportive role for women in labour.
If you want more
information on doulas, you can phone Doula Care of Ontario for referrals
at 1-888-879-3199. Or check out the web site for Doulas of North America
at http://www.dona.com
Recent studies show
that people over 65 are undertreated for many conditions from asthma
to cancer and cardiovascular disease. Is there ageism in the healthcare
system? Are the elderly getting substandard treatment either because
of scarce resources or an actual bias against them? We discuss this
with Dr. Willy Molloy, a geriatrician at Henderson Hospital in Hamilton
and David Globerman, an advocate for better access to quality healthcare
for seniors. The Running To Daylight Foundation

Second Opinion
When you go to your
doctor to have your blood pressure or your cholesterol checked, what
are you hoping to hear? That they're okay? Well, Dr. Ian Blumer says
we should strive for better than just "okay".
