Children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder receive more medical care for asthma, infections and injuries, and have double the medical costs of youngsters without the disorder.  It's unclear from the U.S. study whether kids with ADHD have more health problems or are simply diagnosed more often because they have more visits with health professionals.  The study also supports previous evidence that ADHD children are more likely to have asthma than those without the disorder.

The safest way to cook a hamburger is to flip it, often.  For years, food experts have recommended burgers be well-done in order to kill harmful bacteria such as E-coli.   But the more you cook the burger, the higher the levels of chemicals known as amines, (ah-MEENS) that have been linked to cancer in animals.  The solution?  Flip the burger once a minute.  It'll cook faster, killing off the bacteria, but keeping the amines levels lower.

Women are more vulnerable than men to the harmful effects of smoking.  A Norwegian study found that even when they smoke the same amount, women are exposed to higher concentrations of noxious gas.  Although the rate of asthma rose in line with the number of cigarettes smoked by women, there was no similar increase in men.  Researchers attribute the variation in risk to the fact that women have smaller lungs than men.
