Participate in Ontario's Best Lecturers Competition!
Last Fall, TVO's BIG IDEAS initiated a search for Ontario's best lecturer. We wanted names of professors whose classes were not to be missed. The response was, to say the least, both surprising and very gratifying with 359 nominations! The 10 best contestants selected by the jury will be asked to give special lectures which will air on BIG IDEAS beginning Saturday October 8, 2005 at 1 PM. Then you, the viewer, will have the chance to grade each of the 10 lectures online or by phone to determine who will be Ontario's Best Lecturer! The winner will be announced on Saturday November 12, 2005.
Reach for the Top!
The Ontario Finals of Reach For The Top, Canada's longest running TV quiz show featuring high
school students will return to TVO on Sunday September 11 at 6:30 pm and will run for 11 consecutive weeks. The final game in the series will be telecast on TVO, Sunday, November 20, 2005. Our new provincial champions and their coach will receive a 9 day European tour provided by EF Educational Tours! Once again, the Ontario Finals of “Reach for the Top” will be hosted by Nicole Stamp who can currently be seen on TVO’s Crawlspace.
Please make sure that TVO for TEACHERS E-News is not delivered into your bulk/junk folder! Place us on your safe list! |

VOX: ARCTIC FEVER

|
| SUN SEPT 4 AT 6:00 pm |
| Ten students from across North America set off on an expedition of a lifetime, camping, not on land, but on the frozen ice of the Arctic Ocean. Their goal is to experience one of our planet’s best kept secrets and to learn how we can better live in harmony with the natural world. We witness how they foster a new understanding and respect for the planet and for each other. In this way, we will not only be left with the excitement of the journey, but with insight on how the members of the group gain fresh perspectives, connect with the natural world, and increase their awareness of the earth as a global ecosystem.

Our country is changing: it’s becoming more and more diverse with each passing year, as greater numbers of immigrants choose Canada as their new home. And while we like to think of ourselves as one big happy cultural mosaic, the truth is that fitting in and adapting can be an incredibly difficult process for immigrant teenagers.Do all Canadians have the same opportunities? Is fitting in a realistic possibility, or even desirable? And as we become even more diverse, are we even ready to handle a massive influx of immigrant teens?

| MON SEPT 12 AT 7 PM |
| First Scientists is a fascinating documentary exploring the history of aboriginal scientific and social techniques and looks at how modern science is now catching up to these ideas. Centuries before Europeans arrived in North America the continent’s First Nations had their own system of scientific exploration rooted in their culture. In many ways, aboriginal science has many parallels to modern methods honed through trial and error and hypothesis testing. In others, this traditional science and technology is fundamentally different, focusing on relationships rather than objects, on the how rather than the why, and on the heart rather than the mind. |
