Mehrunnisa Ahmad Ali is a professor at Ryerson University in the School of Early Childhood Education and a Co-Director of the Centre of Excellence for Research in Immigration and Settlement - The Ontario Metropolis Centre. She teaches graduate courses in research methods in Early Childhood Studies and Immigration and Settlement Studies. Her research interests include newcomer children, youth and families; parent-teacher relations; and preparation of teachers to work with diverse populations.

Denise Baxter is a member of Marten Falls First Nation and of the Bear clan. Her first five years teaching in Constance Lake First Nation had a strong impact on her conviction and desire to work toward success for all students while maintaining pride in their respective cultures. Denise has worked with educators to build an understanding of Ojibway and Cree culture through a variety of workshops, partnerships, mentoring and writing projects, such as Aboriginal Presence in Our Schools: A guide for staff. Denise is currently the principal of Ogden Community School- Lakehead Public Schools, a K-6 school with a 50% Aboriginal population in the downtown south core of Thunder Bay.
