I have to admit that in this instance I do not believe the rights of these individuals should be placed ahead of the safety of children. I do not believe that such an illness can be cured and therefore pedophiles remain a threat regardless of treatment and time spent in prison.

I would not want one released into my neighbourhood nor any neighbourhood where there are children. I can think of no parent who would. There is still so much surrounding this illness that we do not understand and until there is some sort of proven treatment that works 100% of the time, no parent would want to take the risk.  

I really think that if pedophiles could stop themselves from preying on children, they would have. Therefore, I see no need to release them back into society, just because the prison sentences end, because the instances of reoffense are simply too high to risk it...yet the Government allows the risk to remain, through their incompetant and short sighted planning by commitee.

For God's sake, the half way house for these folks in Kingston is next to THREE!!!!!!!! schools...what moron thought THAT would be a good location?

These idiots would stick an AA meeting  next boor to an LCBO....

Okay, so a young man has been caught.  He's before the judge, he at least either takes the decency to admit what he's done, as it's been said about these kinds that they will never admit it until caught.  Now, the man is going to go to jail, or at least we hope so.  I heard comments on this site that say perhaps for 20 years.  Wowa that's a long time, but it takes a long time to deal with a psychiatric condition and to give them rehabilitative treatments etc. within that system.

However, in the meantime, what about supports for the family and friends of the family of the perpetrator?  Where do they go?  Who do they talk to?  Are there support groups in Canada where family/friends can go to talk out their own emotions and thoughts and to hear from others who are also going through this?

Please, I'd really like to get a response that would tell about those kinds of supports.

We can take steps to protect our children, I have found a company that sells a small device that uses GPS and cellular technology to locate children if they become missing. The device is worn on a child and has an SOS button that they can press if they are in danger, the device will call up to 5 people you choose and give a location of your child, you may also dial the device and  listen in to determine if the child is in danger. To locate the child wearing the device you call it like you would a cell phone (it does not ring) and within 30 seconds you have a map location sent to your web enabled cell phone.
