It's hard to remember the last time the arrival of a university professor was so eagerly anticipated. But Richard Florida's arrival at the Rotman business school has been cited by numerous civic leaders as proof that Toronto in particular, and Ontario and Canada in general, must be pretty cool places to live, or someone of his pedigree wouldn't have moved here, from the centre of the political world, Washington D.C.
Florida has taken the town by storm because of his promoting a fresh notion that a city's creativity is its most significant driver.
We'll talk to Florida tonight about those ideas, and about what his arrival here does, in fact, say about this town, this province, and this country.
