    TVOntario Telefest 2000 Awards Gala

     

    It was a star-studded night of celebrities from the film, television and new media industries at TVOntario Telefest 2000. The gala awards ceremony took place Tuesday, November 7 at the Capitol Event Theatre, Toronto. Industry celebs were on hand to present the top honours to the first-place winners in this year's competition. TVOntario Telefest recognizes the outstanding work of television, film and new media students in Ontario colleges and universities.

    Linda Dunlop, producer of TVO's Gemini-nominated book show, Imprint, and Paula Todd, co-host of TVO's Studio 2, with Bringing Home the Bacon producers Lynn Elmhirst, Darcy Belanger, Gerrit Hagen, and Hrach Shehirian of Ryerson Polytechnic University.

     

    Short Documentary

    Flanked by Patty Sullivan and Quddus, co-hosts of TVO's VOX, are Steven Bray and Sarorn Sim of Sheridan College, producers of Forgotten Past: Beyond Cambodia, and Jennifer Taylor of Ryerson Polytechnic University, producer of Stacy. The two films tied for the award.

    Short Drama

    Sutha Shan of Confederation College holds the award for Insight presented by filmmaker Louis Taylor.

    Experimental

    Karen Tisch, managing director, Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival, with the winning producer of The Lesson, Sheila McGrath of the Ontario College of Art & Design.

    Long Documentary

    Filmmaker Barry Greenwald with Ryerson Polytechnic University winners Sharmila Thavagnanam, Sarah Michaelis, Sandra Dimitrakopoulos, producers of Kim's Choice.

    Best Writing & Best Editing

    David Evans of Sheridan College, who scooped both honours for his comedy Among the Adolescent Male, is surrounded by Jennifer Baichwal and David Wharnsby, who were 2000 Gemini Award-winners in the same categories for the documentary The Holier It Gets
