Q: What is TVOntario
Telefest?
A: TVOntario Telefest
is a competition that recognizes the work of Ontario students in
film, television, broadcast journalism, and new media programs.
Q: How does one enter
TVOntario Telefest?
A: Students submit
their productions to the college or university program director
or department head, who may select up to three entries in each of
the Telefest categories. These entries will then be sent to TVOntario
as the official entries of the college or university. No entry will
be accepted by TVOntario unless it is submitted by the program director
or department head.
Q: What are the categories
and formats for TVOntario Telefest?
A: Film and video
students may submit their work in any of the following 11 categories:
Animation, Comedy, Corporate, Drama (Short), Drama (Long), Documentary
(Short) and Documentary (Long), Experimental, Instructional, Music,
and News. New media submissions may be either CD-ROM or Website
and may be entered in one of two categories, general or experimental.
Q: What materials
are required when submitting an entry?
A: Submissions require
a completed nomination package consisting of an entry form, description
of production, a list of the cast & crew or production team, a release
form, and copies of any necessary copyright clearances. One VHS
tape must be submitted for film and video entries. In the new media
categories, two copies of the CD-ROM or the Website address must
be submitted.
Q: Is there a fee
to enter?
A: No, there is no
fee for submissions to TVOntario Telefest.
Q: What is the deadline
for submissions to this year's competition?
A: The deadline for
submissions to TVOntario Telefest 2000 is 5:00 p.m. Friday, May
12.
Q: How and when does
the judging process take place?
A: The judging for
TVOntario Telefest takes place on TVOntario premises in late June.
Nominated works are screened and judged by a jury of qualified experts
from TVOntario and the television, film and new media communities.
Judging is based on a number of content and production criteria,
and awards will be granted to entries with the highest cumulative
evaluation.
Q: What awards are
granted?
A: In each category,
the judges may award first, second, and third places. In cases of
exceptional merit, Best of Craft Awards for technical achievement
in writing, editing, photography, concept, and design may be presented.
TVOntario also honours the film or video entry deemed best overall
production with the Jay Scott Award, and the best new media entry
with the Best Overall Interactive Multimedia Production Award. The
Special Jury Award is awarded to one English and one French film
or video production deemed to have outstanding production values
and deserving of an honourable mention. The Volt Award goes to the
most daring and original film or video production.
Q: What do the winning
students receive?
A: Winning students
receive an official TVOntario Telefest certificate of merit. Their
productions may be broadcast on TVO or TFO or mirrored on the TVOntario
Website. As a presenting sponsor of the Awards, Kodak Professional
Motion Imaging will present a grand prize to the winners of the
Jay Scott and Best Photography Awards. Kodak PMI may also choose
to publicize the winners through its own promotional initiatives
including providing winning entries with the opportunity to be reviewed
at other festivals.
Q: When and where
does the TVOntario Telefest 2000 Awards Gala take place?
A: This year's Gala
will take place in Toronto in the fall. The exact date and venue
will be determined in the coming months.
