Richard Burton stars as Alec Leamas, a soon-to-be retired British Intelligence spy. On his last assignment, he is sent to infiltrate the East German agency, which has imprisoned several British spies. Burton gives brilliant performance as Leamas in the Martin Ritt-directed film. Also starring Oskar Werner and Claire Bloom. Based on the John le Carré novel of the same name. Nominated for two Oscars.
