On his last assignment, he is sent to infiltrate the East German agency, which has imprisoned several British spies. Burton gives brilliant performance as Leamas in the Martin Ritt-directed film. Also starring Oskar Werner and Claire Bloom. Based on the John le Carré novel of the same name. Nominated for two Oscars.
